looks like foregrips are making a mini-comeback

Post by 21farms » Tue Jul 28, 2015 1:30 am

over the last few years, foregrips on rods got smaller and smaller. but, looking at some of the new rod offerings, it seems that foregrips—or, at least big locking nuts—are making a MINI comeback (see what i did there? ).

Good!

I much prefer a small tasteful foregrip to the ridiculous bare thread look.

I can't understand, why manufacturers do this. May be, for best sensitivity for fishing with jig-rigs, but i don't like it.

not sure but maybe to help with balance since rods have gotten lighter but balance worse for the most part

I'm old school and still think the G Loomis Wiebe handle on the original Mag Bass rods were the best. But, I now fish Dobyns Champion Extremes and Champions because he not only gives us the option of full cork handles on most rods but the trim ring he uses on the Extreme rods is a nice touch covering up the threads - as was mentioned, exposed threads annoys me too.

CAN'T STAND exposed thread on a rod, looks unfinished. I'll take the few extra grams of weight and have a hood! :big grin:

Too that point, most reels have roughly the same size foot. Why on earth do they not trim the threads? I have reel seats that open 3.5" or so for some unknown reason.

I don't mind them on moving bait rods as long they are tastefull and small. Bottom contact stuff I can do without one, but those threads must be trimmed, small epoxy ramp or something. We like our Suttle bling, what can I say.

Probably for balance, particularly on split grip rods.

Im a fan of the mini fore grips.

While there at, they can go back to full length rear grips.

If they all went back to full grips we would all btch

Just like we did in 2008 when only a couple of companies made rods without foregrips. Now have everyone has converted to little to no foregrips we want them to go back; sounds right to me

You're 100% right ](*,)

I did the same, dumped a bunch of old GLX full cork griped rods and old B series Shimano's for EVA split grips and high speed Abu's. Now I am working on buying everything back and paying more than I did in the first place. ](*,)
