Fast VS Extra Fast tip
Im looking to drop some money on a high end heavy worm and jig rod, The ones I want (MS-X Limited, Poison Glorious, Poison Ultima) seem to only come in regular/fast, or fast. For some reason the Japanese don't make a lot of casting rods that have an extra fast tip. How much will I be losing in terms of sensitivity with a fast tip vs an extra fast?
Re: Fast VS Extra Fast tip
Hadn't thought about sensitivity...I just know with fluoro being as stretchy as it is I need all the help I can get out of my j/W rods.
Re: Fast VS Extra Fast tip
I'd worry about presentation first. Xfast is best for pitching.

Re: Fast VS Extra Fast tip
I don't really consider the two to be related. A faster rod acts slightly different, but doesn't really transmit vibration (if that's your definition of sensitivity) any differently. I also don't think that stepping back to a Fast over an Ex-Fast is really that much of a downgrade. Stepping two from Ex-Fast to Mod-Fast might show up, but I don't think that 1 step is really going to impact you.Bootytrain wrote: How much will I be losing in terms of sensitivity with a fast tip vs an extra fast?

Taper is the trade off of cast accuracy vs control. Fast equates to accuracy, slow equates to control.

Re: Fast VS Extra Fast tip
I'm mainly worried about detecting the bites in deeper water. I'll more than likely be using heavy flouro.

Here is a JDM EXTRA FAST Rod and it is a japanese mfg one.....May wanna see what the NEW AGS Guided ones are that are coming out at I-CAST.

The Strike Flanker is a JDM Rod----Non-AGS.
I meant the USDM-AGS Steez Cast Rods being introduced at I-Cast.

The poison tima would be just fine. You can also look at the evergreen kaleido black gunner which is fast to extra fast. Another choice would be the Luxxe Oltre 70H or the Megabass aaron martens x7.
Re: Fast VS Extra Fast tip
I have found that line can equalize out any difference in tip speed. On my xFast rods I fish FC line. I can make my Fast rods act almost the same with braided line and a leader. If I have FC line on two similar rods I perceive a slightly faster one will inform me of the bite earlier.
As I've started fishing braid more recently then prior years I am concluding I don't like braid much on an xfast rod. Net affect is a bit too fast. Not sure if others have same experience or not.

Too bad he doesn't touch anything Daiwa related. Anyways, my main jig rod is the Black Gunner as mentioned above.E73Bass wrote:The Strike Flanker is a JDM Rod----Non-AGS.

I actually have a Tatula rod, Tatula Type R reel, SS SV, T3 Ballistic and more than likely an Alphas SV in the future.Pen3 wrote:Too bad he doesn't touch anything Daiwa related. Anyways, my main jig rod is the Black Gunner as mentioned above.E73Bass wrote:The Strike Flanker is a JDM Rod----Non-AGS.

In regards to sensitivity and how much you will lose with everything being equal? Nearly inperceivable.
The slower the action the more accurate and consistent your casts will be. Xfast action is better for setting hook through plastic or weedguard and for controlling a fish in heavy cover due to getting to the rods backbone faster. I'm sure you know this but a couple posts here had questionable info.
