That being said and laugh if you want to but for the money the Bass Pro Cranking stick is a great rod for the price.
Re: Rod for large crankbaits
Actually I have 3 of those that I picked up for $25 each back in 2007 when they were discontinuing an old design. While they work I'm not a fan of the big power hump in the handle and they feel like I am swinging a broomstick. They rarely make it onto the deck anymore. The ones I have are medium so they don't work for this application.barrys wrote:That being said and laugh if you want to but for the money the Bass Pro Cranking stick is a great rod for the price.
I looked at them online and noticed they have completely changed and now have split handles, but haven't made it to the store yet to see them. Are they lighter now?

The new 7'2" mh steez XT looks interesting at $299. It's a regular tapered rod.

The Megabass XX Launcher has a faster taper than I expected, handles deep cranks extremely well, and has no problem with a 3/4 oz lipless crank. It's an impressive stick:

Re: Rod for large crankbaits
One criticism of the 13 Fishing Crankenstien that has been floating around is stiffness. I prefer a limber crank rod so I have stayed away, but guys that fish cranks to get them stuck and rip them out of the veggies have had good things to say. It might fit the bill, and there are very few guys here that have reviewed one. I think you should buy it and tell us what you think
We all know how great the Dobyns are, no need for more reviews LOL.

Keith Combs has specially tuned rods for this! Since he is on Strike King's Prostaff, ALL the XD's have been tuned on his crank bait rods! He even has rods for the 10XD, 8XD, and so on!

I use the Powell 3D 755 and 7115, both are composite rods. Great price too for a light in weight rod.

Phenix just released the X-15 at ICAST for this purpose, something to look into.

Re: Rod for large crankbaits
I bought a 7'11" cumara that is fast action to try with Dd22. I liked it enough that after making a few cast I bought 2 more. And then I picked up 2- 7'6" moderate action cumara for lipless cranks that I have yet to get around and pull the tags off and try.
