Still in love with my 803!

Post by Smalleyez » Sun May 24, 2015 11:36 pm

The TT review was written 10 years ago http://tackletour.com/reviewgloomisjwbcr803.html and for my smallmouth/largemouth plastics I've never found anything I like more than my Loomis BCR803. I finally matched it up with a reel that totally fits my big river applications (Alphas SV 7:1) and bass beware! It scored on a fat 20" smallmouth on it's first spot. if I can figure out how to get the photo off my cell phone onto here I'll add it later.

Viva la BCR803!

I owned all the 2 and 3 powere bcr's at one point. I've since sold them, and my mbr's are all that remain. I definitely miss my 803 and 893's...they remain the most sensitive sticks I've fished to date.

GLX BCR 803 and 893 are "gold standard" rods for sure. =D>

Everyone seems to like longer rod over (7') nowadays. Bcr 803 6'8 is still perfect length for me. It's easier to handle and control.

I feel the same way about my glx bsr852, something about the way it feel is different from other spinning rods.

You just need both. When you want to cast and work baits...grab the 803. When you want to pitch a mile...grab the 893. You can underhand skip baits way under dock with the 893. Its a special rod as well.

The 803bcr glx will be in my rod locker till I or it say goodbye to mother earth :D I'm not a huge spinning rod guy but if I was the bsr852 glx would hold the same place in my heart. What I think I like about both is the sick xfast action. I own the 803 NRX casting as well but the slightly slower action makes me prefer the glx version. I actually replaced my 802bcr with the 803 NRX. Similar tips but the 803NRX has much more backbone.

I've recently added some 894 NRX rods and I love them. However in tight cover or when my tennis elbow is acting up the 803 GLX gets a strong nod. The other advantage of a short rod is you can mount a light reel and still have good balance.

I love my 803s NRX and 852c NRX...

I got a newer GLX 853s and its a beast, nice rod but not like the NRX rods.

I'm not sure one can compare the newer 853 actions to the old. In fact, even back in the day the 803 glx was preferred by many over the BCR853. Just something about the action of the rod. By the same token, I had both the 802 and 804 BCR's at one time and felt them just not magical like the 803.

I like the GLX series better than the NRX series, but that's my opinion.

You make a great point Al! I don't think we can prove it one way or another. Most will assume because of marketing and cost that the NRX is better. To make things more challenging, some report the newer GLX's are different then the old which only tends to scatter the data from posters like me who only have older model GLX rods.

What I can say is this. If you go back to the time when the NRX rods were first released and many guys had a ton of GLX and a few NRX the sentiment was highly mixed. I personally did not feel a sensitivity difference but only that the NRX had more moderate tips. From say 2011/12 to today, most guys have bought NRX, the GLX has changed and Glooms continues to push the NRX as "the rod". if you go by popular opinion of these boards, the NRX is better.

Seeing many reviews in the early years of the NRX, taking several years off of this board, then coming back after the marketing success of the NRX; I am not sure what to believe. I certainly don't generally think the GLX is better but it may very well be just as good but with different feel. sorry to ramble :D

I have an 803 Mossyback Series casting rod and it really is one of my favorites aside from my 783 Weibe seat IMX. The 803 is matched with a Calais 100A which in itself is a work of art!

As much as I like the NRX 803C there are still 2 GLX BCR 803 with a Conquest 50 mounted on them that I still enjoy using. Just do not see a reason to replace them as they a just great all time performers......

I’ve been reading as much as I can about the GLX803c jwr

But it seems like there isn’t sufficient information on the current line up of the GLX
On impulse I brought the new 803c GLX rod for my 50 conquest. I don’t know what I’m getting into
But if you are using this rod some current information would be great
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible
