Spybait rod
Spybait rod
Been thinking of getting a new rod that is well suited for this technique.
What are you guys using for spybaits? And on a side note, what spybaits are you using with this rod??

I've been using the Dobyns Champ 702SF and it works great. Trying to sell it and move up to the above mentioned XX Stinger Shot though. Duo Spinbait 80 for me.

Re: Spybait rod
Casting or spinning? The most important thing for me is having a moremoderate or even a moderate plus tapered rod. It needs to be stout enough to launch a 3/8 oz bait as hard as possible, but bend well into the butt once a fish is pinned. My success has come on really long casts.
Spining budget- Phenix M1 610L
Spining personal favorite- Expride 610L
Casting budget- Omen 610ML
Casting personal favorite- Cumara Gen1 7' M Moderate

Re: Spybait rod
I have a custom Phenix UMBX 700L built to 6'10" that I use for spybaits. Have it paired up with a PXL-R and I love it for spybaits and small jerkbaits.

I was thinking of going spinning, I have a M spinning setup but want to go lighter.RMCatchNrelease wrote:Casting or spinning? I was also going to try my x4 RattleViper/SSSV combo this year as a casting setup for them but I think the line I'll have on will be an issue maybe.
I should also mention all the spybait I have are the Duo 80s, the non g-fix ones as I didn't like the g-fix spybaits. I do have one 90 size too.

Re: Spybait rod
I use an NRX 802S, Stella 2500 with 6lb InvisX and the original Duo Realis Spinbait 80.

Re: Spybait rod
Phenix Recon 762. Flings a spy bait a mile and has a soft tip

Biggs,
I just purchased some of the standard 80's and the G-Fix. Why did you not like the G-Fix?

The NRX 802c is on my short list! One badass stick...if you want spinning, I can't think of a better rod.WSfishin wrote:X2 works great!Bassmar wrote:I use an NRX 802S, Stella 2500 with 6lb InvisX and the original Duo Realis Spinbait 80.
Re: Spybait rod
I find all the G-Fix lures Duo has just sinks WAY to quick for me and with the G-Fix spinbaits they lose the nice sinking 'flutter' action the regular spinbait 80's have.
Just my opinion but don't like any of the G-Fix stuff.
I did just buy the XX Shakey Head rod (Gen1) that I'm hoping I can use for spybaits.
