2 Megabass Orichi XX spinning rods?

Post by Basscatcher99 » Sat Dec 06, 2014 11:01 am

If like to buy 2 MB Orochi XX spinning rods to cover most of my spinning rod needs. Dropshotting, shakeyheading, wacky rigs, split-shotting, Ned-rigs, neko rigs, small jerkbaits, you get the idea. Of the 4 models of XX, including the 2 new models (stinger tip and Ronan), which two would you recommend for the listed techniques. I'll be using 10-12 lb braid and 4-7 lb leader. Both reels paired with Rarenium C14+ 2500. Thanks.

If it were me, I'd grab the shakey head and ronin.

if it were me and i could choose two for the techniques you listed, i'd go for the stinger shot and the updated shakeyhead rod. if i could only have one, it'd be the original shakeyhead.

DS for wacky, drop shotting, neko, and split shot
Ronin for jerbaits and cranks

What is the difference between the original and new snakeyhead rod?

actually, you couldnt tell the DS and old SH action apart other than a few inches. the new SH is little heavier action.

i know of 3-4 people buying the SH and using it for DS because they prefered the longer rods.

I actually bought the Orichi XX shakeyhead rod as a versatile light bait rod. I have used it for spybaits, small hair jigs, light shakey heads, smaller jerkbaits, and drop shotting. It is a very good drop shot despite it not being labeled as a true drop shot rod. It isn't as powerful as I thought it would be when it bought it. Also the rod seem to cap out for me right around 3/8 oz. One of my favorite light bait rods no doubt. Couldn't tell you how the actual Drop Shot rod fishes though...

I'm leaning towards the stinger and the shakeyhead. Is the stinger shot good for anything besides dropshotting? I'm assuming the shakeyhead will be more versatile, but I'm just wondering. Does it pair well with 10 lb braid and a 4 lb leader?

Bump. I was going to start a new topic but remembered this one. I don't need two any more (pulled the trigger on a jackall poison adrena 6'6" light) but I still need a spinning rod for the heavier stuff like 1/4 ounce dropshot rigs, tubes, and shakeyheads. I'm guessing the shakeyhead is what I'm looking for, but I've heard some reviews that the new shakeyhead model is heavier in power and less versatile, in that case the dropshot might be an option. What do you think? I'm buying a 3000Xg shimano twin power for it.

I have the old with a c3000 and it's loads of fun. I use for DS mostly. The newer xx is tad stronger tip.

Cool. Think I'm going to go with the shakeyhead if that's the only difference between the new and old. Have any pics of the combo?

I use the XX DS ST and the XX Ronin. The DS ST for dropshot, spybaits, split shots, and other very light presentations with light gauge hooks. The Stinger Tip is pretty soft IMO and doesnt have the power to drive hooks home hard with the thicker hooks. The Ronin is great for jerkbaits, wacky rigs, light topwater, etc. I like to use 4" wacky senkos and pop-x's on it.
