13 fishing cranking rods vs shimano

Post by 87tpita » Mon Sep 15, 2014 9:37 am

Love my shimano crucial crankbait rod (7-6) but I really want to get my hands on an envy crankbait rod. ... unfortunately I don't know anyone who owns one.... so without shelling out $180 on an unknown ...... wondering if any of you have or currently do own both of these rods and can give a comparison if the envy is equal... better... or way better than the crucial rod

They are one of the few 13 Rods I have not held or fished with, but I've been told they are very stiff for a crank rod.
I've heard it likened to the kind of rods the west coast guys tend to crank deep and rip through weeds with. A specific tool to be sure, but not an all 'rounder in that guys opinion.
Maybe if you post in the 13 fishing support forum they can chime in on what the rod is like? I'd like to hear some other comparisons as well.

They are not stiff, but definitely not your full glass noodle rod

I have a 7'4 Envy Cranking and that is one of the best cranking rods I've used. Lighter and more balanced than the Shimano crucial.

It depends on how much you like this style of rod, it's definitely a faster action than regular cranking rods but I actually like it since I can pull the crank bait out of cover a lot easier. Shimano TC4 is more parabolic and the Envy has a stronger backbone. The TC4 is more fun to fight the fish with but the Envy gives you more control. The tip on the envy allows you to sling lighter baits as well.

The new Crucial 7'6 Cranking stick is nice I'll agree. Not many fish on it yet but super strong with a nice bend…Love the look/finish of these new rods.

Got a chsnce to cast a dobyns crankbait rod yesterday. .. and handled my first full glass rod theday before that. ... I must admit the tc4 glass/graphite shimano has is truly a middle ground between all graphite or all glass.

Any shop that carries the cranking rods. They are less expensive than the regular Envy line.

Our cranking rods are a 30 Ton Japanese Toray and glass composite. They all sport a parabolic crankbait style action while still maintaining the balance and extremely lightweight blank to compliment the rest of the Envy black series rod models.

The crankbait rods are progressive in action with the 7'2" rod build for shallow running and squarebill cranks, the 7'4" model is the all-around action built for the majority of baits and reasonable depths, and the 7'11" "Crankinstein" taking care of the deep diving 3000XD's that have become popular in the last few years.
