Above average 2 piece casting rods?

Post by Hogsticker2 » Sun May 04, 2014 6:44 pm

I'm wanting a nice 2 piece casting rod when I travel to Portland with my family 3 times a year. Need to fish my old stomping grounds. I want to be able to source it locally. Medium or MH fast is fine. The only things I can find that seem worth mentioning is the Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth, Cabelas Platinum ZX, and the Megabass racing condition world edition. I can't find any info on the Megabass rods. 6'6 to 7'0 would be fine. Any other suggestions??

Expride 2pc casting. I have handled a couple. A friend bought them from Japan (before Expride was released in the US). Both 2pc. They are very light. From what I remember, they were also very sensitive. There is one MH in Tacklewarehouse.

Page 2 has a little insight on the MB World Editions. The 66M or 70MH would likely work. I didn't care for the cabelas rod. Great components, crappy blank.

Actually used one of these as my "trunk rod" for a number of years.

Actually quite nice for the money.

Insightful information that the rid exploded? I wouldn't buy the Expride for transport purposes. After breaking it down you still have six feet of blank. I'd rather just buy a six foot rod.

If you want to wrap your own…St. Croix has a bunch of 2 pc rods in all their freshwater lines...SCII-SCV. The spinning blanks have 2 pc blanks that can be built as casting rods…they range from UL-MH.

anglersworkshop.com has 15% of blanks and components right now…use code "rodbuild" …just ordered my first 2 pc blank for the same purpose as you today! SCV 7' ML F 2pc.

Mudhole has $5 shipping (even on 1 pc rods) on orders over $100 with code "ftfshipping"

Bass Pro makes their Bionic Blades (the burgundy ones) in a 2pc 6'6" and 7' M and MH fast. IM8/50MM blank. I picked one up in a combo with their Bionic Plus baitcaster but haven't used it yet. I'm still out on the road. I'll report back about the rod once I get a chance to use it if you're curious...

On a certain auction site someone sells repaired st croix rods. I have 2 of them and they are really nice, also inexpensive. The only problem is the tapers can be weird . If you keep an eye out legend elites and extremes pop up.
