Casting braid on recoils
Casting braid on recoils
I have heard from 2 people that owns the 13 Fishing Envy line and they said they didn't like the recoil guides when casting with braid. Anyone else have any issues with this rod or just recoils in general with braid? I am looking to get two Envy's by next month and don't want to regret it. One of them I will use for swim jigs so I need it to be able to cast.

Re: Casting braid on recoils
Have no issues casting braid with recoils on my NRXs but the noise can be annoying. Wish they used all SIC but not a deal breaker.
Re: Casting braid on recoils
What kind of braid were you using? Power pro was used from the two guys I know.
Re: Casting braid on recoils
I've used power pro, 832, and FX2 with recoils. Casting wasn't an issue at all. The noise when retrieving was definitely annoying though. Much prefer SiC or Alconite myself.

Usually 30lb Sufix 832 for jigs.Bass1980 wrote:What kind of braid were you using? Power pro was used from the two guys I know.

Noise is the biggest issues, although some people have found some grooving issues in the guides, with the old school ReCoils
Re: Casting braid on recoils
Indeed, the recoils are a bit noisy, but they cast just fine. Using Suffix 832 and Power Pro 30lb.
Re: Casting braid on recoils
I never had a rod with recoils and had read a lot of negative opinions on them.
Two years ago, I bought a couple NRX rods and I actually ended up having no real issues with them.
The noise, not too bad to me. I actually like the sound of the braid when I set the hook and fight a fish.
It makes a distinct sound and I think it's cool, it's the sound of "fish on!!!" to me.
I like the fact that I don't have to worry about guide damage. the only negative I see, seems like the splice knot between the braid and leader is a little harder to pass through the recoils, so some loss in casting distance if you use a leader.
I guess the point is, sometimes you just have to use it and see if you like things even if you read a bunch of negative opinions.

Re: Casting braid on recoils
I have an Envy and a variety of BCR GLX rods. No issue with recoils using 20-50 lb Tuf-line and Suffix 832. Whatever noise is routinely being complained about doesn't bother me.Bass1980 wrote:I have heard from 2 people that owns the 13 Fishing Envy line and they said they didn't like the recoil guides when casting with braid. I have several rods with Recoils. I use 30 - 50 lb. Sufix Performance or 832 braid and don't have any issues at all with them. I am one of the few that really like the sound they make when a Redfish goes on a long drag screaming run.
Re: Casting braid on recoils
Thanks for all the feedbacks. I do also love the sound of braid and recoils when you're on fish. I have not personally used it but heard it on videos clips. I did however just bought an Envy so I will see first hand. I don't care about the noise, just about casting issues and seems like everyone has said they don't have issues casting with braids. Although the general response is people do prefer SIC guides I'm wondering why the Envy and the NRX line uses recoils just to name a few. Is it for cost saving? Are there any better advantage with recoils?
