Re: Loomis DSR822C
I have used mine for small cranks/shallow cranks,as well as smaller top water lures.Worked surprisingly well
Re: Loomis DSR822C
+1 for small topwaters, throw a tiny torpedo with mine on occasion.
I like to use mine for split shotting straight tail worms/reapers/ tiny brush hawgs. Sometimes I fly line the baits if fishing really shallow. The rod works ok for lighter shakey heads in a pinch too.

My two cents...just because a rod has a listed "tech moniker", doesn't mean the blank can't be used effectively for other techs.
Especially when it comes to using it for fishing in general.

Right on. Most "technique specific" rods are basically described as such because they have properties that most people desire in a rod for that technique. The DSR is a bit softer than the SYR, which is a bit softer than the 852S "JWR". The DSR will protect light line well, but also can pull duty for smaller treble hooked baits, etc.dragon1 wrote:My two cents...just because a rod has a listed "tech moniker", doesn't mean the blank can't be used effectively for other techs.

Yes, long gone are the days where a specific model in the MBR range (in example) would just/only have a nicely written paragraph or two or three; as to what the rod/blank would "excel at doing".teamdaiwa5 wrote:Right on. My Gen 1 SCV 7'0" MLF is great for lots of things from 1/8 - 1/2oz - floating minnobaits to small-med jerkbaits, topwaters, inline spinners, spinnerbaits, Kastmasters, tubes, jigs, shakey heads, drop shots, buzzbaits, weightless wacky worms, smaller Senko type baits, and lots more....it would be damn hard for me to get a "Tech Moniker" typed out and pasted on this custom rod as it would be the length of the blank, eh?

Re: Loomis DSR822C
Could just put "All Kinds of Sh*t" down the blank....
Re: Loomis DSR822C
As mentioned, the deep, soft bend of this rod can lend itself to small moving bait/treble hook applications...
Re: Loomis DSR822C
My apologies to the OP...this is darn funny though. LMAO.teamdaiwa5 wrote:Could just put "All Kinds of Sh*t" down the blank....

Mine is now officially a Loomis AKOS822C
Re: Loomis DSR822C
A.K.O.S. is now officially a TT moniker, acronym, abbreviation...
Feel free to use it for rods, reels, lines, electronics, lures, boats, etc., etc.
Besides, it saves a little bit of typing/texting!

"The Search for AKOS" has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
Re: Loomis DSR822C
On most rods, I agree that they can often be used for several different purposes beyond what they were designed for. But I don't really use my DSR for anything but drop shotting. I just don't need have any other technique's that it would suit well, as soft as it is. I LOVE this rod, use it often, even put my Stella on it. I've never had a better rod for DSing. But it's not very versatile for the ways I fish.
Made the mistake of letting the wife fish with it this morning. She caught some really nice fish with it. Think I'll have to add another one to the lineup now.
