Best rod sleeve/protection for shore fishing?
I want to take a couple of rods with me when fishing from shore, but have yet to do so because I don't have anything to protect the rod not being used. The areas I fish usually don't have anywhere to prop the second rod up so I want to get a rod sleeve/protector. I have a backpack so I would rest the rod on that. The reels are protected with Daiwa neoprene covers. Any suggestions appreciated.

I bought a simple rod sleeve from SAIL(Canada) to do the same thing you want to and it has done its job well. TW has these...

I'm not sure if you're looking for something more robust, based on your use of 'best' in the title, but the simple sleeve has worked well for me and I shore fish 95% of the time. Hope you find what you're after!

I use Scott's rod sleeves but not when I'm fishing. To much hassle when I want to switch rods and I also lean a rod against a book bag and I don't worry about it getting scratched.

I use the corkscrew metal rod holder from Wal-Mart for trout fishing. I prefer not to lay my rods on the ground.

Ready rig, no longer in production due to patent issues. Super light and breathable. Completely protects reel.

I just bought a bunch of Rod Glove Pro covers from the last Tacklewarehouse sale and really like them. The are neoprene like your reel covers so they offer extra protection compared to mesh. They slide into rod tubes easily too. So far so good.

I just use the rod gloves, and the black TW reel covers. If your around sand, you may need a better option. I usually take two rods, my jig/plastic rod and frog rod when hiking the banks. The best idea is to take one glove and put it on the rod not being used and leave the other in the car.

I've been using the adjustable rod socks from BPS the last several years. They work great and they're $6.

I have some nylon rod socks I recieved when I bought my Cara T7's. I like them in the car or the back of the truck. I never leave them on if I'm out...too much of a pain.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think I like the corkscrew rod holder or maybe something similar to the surf fishing rod holder. Much easier to access the rod compared to a cover. All I want is something that is easy to insert into the ground.
Re: Best rod sleeve/protection for shore fishing?
If you want to just stick it in the sand or other soft surface cut some PVC tubing down with a slot at one end for the reel stem and cut it at sharp angle at the other so it will stick into the ground. It's cheap and easy to use.

the only drawback would be if your fishing rip rap/rocky banks where it might be a little more difficult to place into the ground. can't go wrong for $2. In fact, I came across mine while fishing which gave me the idea.Micropterus salmoides wrote:Thanks for the responses everyone. I'll second this recommendation. I have about a dozen of their jackets and they are top notch.froteur wrote:"put a sock on it" rod socks. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewputasockonit.html
