13 Fishing Rod (Balance w/E Series Curado)
13 Fishing Rod (Balance w/E Series Curado)
For those of you who have rods by 13 Fishing, I'd like to know how well they balance with an E Series Curado? I currently have nothing but Powell Max rods and have been fairly happy, but they don't balance worth a #$%^!!! Thinking of replacing a number of my Powell Max's that I pitch and/or flip with for the Envy Blacks (specifically the 7'6" Heavy and Medium/Heavy).
Any input would be much appreciated.
thx

Which size reel? I can tell you the 50/51 size won't balance real well with the longer, heavier rods - although I believe only six tenths of an ounce seperates the two reels. The Max series have one thing in common with the 13's, they are both slightly tip heavy. With both rods I have found some of the heavier reels such as a Zillion or Revo 2 balance a little better IMO.

Should have clarified. Looking to balance a Shimano Curado 201E7.

I am curious about which models you own. I don't find most Powells to be tip heavy at all.djd wrote:For those of you who have rods by 13 Fishing, I'd like to know how well they balance with an E Series Curado? I have a 6'8 Max in both casting and spinning. Compared to my same length/power Dobyns Champions they are tip heavy.

I've found the spinning models to be tip heavy, no doubt because of the short seat. But the 683C, 702C, 703C, 733C, 765CB/SBR, and 704C balance no more than an inch in front of the winding check with a 200E7. My 705C is slightly more tip heavy with a balance point of about 2 inches in front of the winding check while my previously owned 806CB was always heavy.Hogsticker2 wrote:I have a 6'8 Max in both casting and spinning. With the way I palm reels with my index finger extended up the blank, I do not feel any tip heaviness with the models I mentioned. In fact, I find the opposite to be true and I experience a balanced, weightless sensation.
Re: 13 Fishing Rod (Balance w/E Series Curado)
For 7'6" rods and above I like a reel with some weight like a Zillion. Reels above 8oz feel about right on flipping sticks and deep cranking sticks. It really depends on the particular rod though.

All of my Powell Max rods are tip heavy. Specifically

I have never held and Envy...Don't want to.
I love the Omen and can't afford to drop enough $$ for an Envy right now.
My 7'6" MH Omen balances about 3/4" in front of the reel with a Chronarch E7 and line on the spool.
I'm extremely happy. Everything else I've tried has balanced 2-3 inches above the reel or more (see GL2 7'5" Heavy). Ugh.
The 7'6" MH Omen is a GREAT pitching rod for the money.

Thanks for everyones feedback. Next TW sale I'm going to pull the trigger on at least one Envy. I'm thinking either a 7'3" or 7'6" pitching rod (3/8-3/4 jigs)

Re: 13 Fishing Rod (Balance w/E Series Curado)
The 7'6" omen makes a good a rig rod also. It balances on the reel nut with a gen2 revo STX for me. I'm looking forward to trying it for pitching too. It seems really sensitive too fie being in the 100$ price category.
Re: 13 Fishing Rod (Balance w/E Series Curado)
Here's a Scorpion DC (essentially the same as the 200 sized Curado) on a 7'1 M Omen rod. I think it balances quite well and feels right at home with this rod. That's the reel without line as well, so adding line would have likely moved it down even a little bit more. The Curado weighs about .6 oz heavier so it should be about the same or maybe even a little less tip heavy than my reel shown here. Hope this helps some. I am sure if you step up to a 7'6 or even the 7'1 MH it would be slightly more tip heavy than my medium action rod. The Medium does fish a bit stout though. The actions kind of remind me of St Croix's mediums. The Envy rods should be lighter with the recoil guides and better blanks, so balance should improve even more so than seen here with the Omen.
Re: 13 Fishing Rod (Balance w/E Series Curado)
Previous poster is dead on in his assessment of balance and action.
The balance of the 7'6" MH is about 3/4" in front of where the M balances. This is with a Chronarch 200E7 and PowerPro.
