Shipping Tubes
Shipping Tubes
I am forced to sell off my gear and only have one Tackle Warehouse rod tube left.
Where can one buy these type of cardboard tubes or should I just get PVC from Home Depot?
Thanks,
Don

Re: Shipping Tubes
Check out carpet stores. They generally have some big tubes leftover for free if you ask. Otherwise, PVC is probably the best choice.
Re: Shipping Tubes
Last time I was at BPS the guy at the reel bar gave me two,"free". Does not hurt to ask. That is if you have a BPS near you. Maybe your local tackle shop has some that they usually just throw away. Again, does not hurt to ask.

any local tackle shop should have some and are usually happy to give them away

Re: Shipping Tubes
Though if you can get hard cardboard tubes for free from BPS and other places that just throw them away, I would not use those tubes to ship any rod I have that is worth over $300+ - especially Megabass and custom rods. I am even reluctant to ship any rod I have that are worth $200. My choice, PVC Pipe. PVC Pipes should not cost you no more than $4 and will not break easily like that of Carboard tubes. If the Shipping companies break your PVC pipe tube thus breaking your rod, then it has got to be the Shipping companies fault. Just my 2cents.

Thanks for the replies!
Will be using PVC tubes.
Where I drop off will ring up US Postal Service, UPS and Fed Ex and give me quotes for all three.
Always use plenty of bubble wrap and insurance!!

Re: Shipping Tubes
Another vote for PVC, you can use the grey pvc which is lighter in weight but still a lot stronger than cardboard. I swear they must do midnight jousting or javelin throwing with some of the tubes I get.

What's up Stan?
Loving the rods bud! Ive shipped rods in PVC and cardboard tubes well over a dozen times. I'm confident in either as a shipping tube as I have not had either fail me. How you load the rods is just as important though. A tip or guide can easily be damaged in either.
