suggestions on a medium to medium-light rod
suggestions on a medium to medium-light rod
Just broke my rod rated ml rated for lures down to 1/16 oz. It was a 6'6" kistler helium ltx 2 mod action i used for small cranks and occassionally shakeyheads and drop shot.
they dont make this model any more so looking for suggestions on rods with similar characteristers.

Two rods come to mind. Dobyns Extreme DX 701 or Phenix Recon 712. I like a little heavier rod, so I went with a Phenix 713. I use that rod for what you mentioned. The price was too good to pass up, especially when there are so few ML or L rods in 7'. I still want the DX 702, though... Sooner or later...

Suggest calling Kistler and discussing the break with them. 281-259-8033. They may cover it under a warranty, costing you mayeb $50 for a new rod. I beleve that Ed(?) Kistler, founder of the company, mans the customer service phones..vaj26 wrote:Just broke my rod rated ml rated for lures down to 1/16 oz. DX 701 and 702 from Dobyns are both great! I don't think the fast or extra fast action matters that much for small trebles when using such a light rod.

I agree...I have both as well.cst wrote:DX 701 and 702 from Dobyns are both great! I don't think the fast or extra fast action matters that much for small trebles when using such a light rod.
DX702 is amazingly versatile. Agree that it's fast action offset by its inherent lightness. Super tough; had an epic Muskie battle the other night on a DX702/Sol. Not a recommended use...I was just working an RC STX and got a surprise fish.
DX701 far less useful, but a blast.
