need Help picking a rod

Post by hsangler » Fri Jun 01, 2012 8:28 am

So I'm lookin for a 7' heavy used for frogs, jigs, and pitching. I've narrowed my search to a falcon expert, I can get for 130 and a duckett. I'm open to suggestions, but don't wanna spend much more than 150, im gonna have it paired with a lews tourney pro. Thanks for your help

Lamiglas Excel, specifically the XL735C, a friend on mine uses this rod to pitch 1/2oz and 3/4oz jigs, and he also throws frogs with it very effectively. I have used it myself and it has a surprising amount of feel for a stout rod so I think it would a rod to look at and I believe you can get it from the hook up tackle for $109.99.

A Phenix Recon 715 is perfect for those applications. its 169 so its right in your ball park and i think you'd be much happier with a better balanced rod and very sensitive.

No experience with the Duckett rod, or the 7' Heavy Expert for that matter, but I had a 7' Medium Expert before falling and breaking a couple pieces off the end. I still have a Falcon Expert 6'6" Medium and 6'9" Light. These rods are pretty light. $130 is a good price as the rods over 6'6" were going for $289 a few years ago.

Powell EF 704c. 140 shipped. You get a great blank and workmanships and aloconites. Handle 1/2-3/4 oz jigs and it's great for frogs unless you are really fishing the heavy southern slop.
