DX743 or Zombie 7'4" mh??? decisions!!!
been thinking about picking one of these up but not sure which one i should go with... gonna be a multi-purpose rod, i'm more concerned about the balance and sensitivity of each rod tho... anyone that has had one or both please comment thanks fellas
Re: DX743 or Zombie 7'4" mh??? decisions!!!
Dx 743 = perfect balance , great sensitivity , as all Dobyns are . Never fished the zombie but heard good things.
Re: DX743 or Zombie 7'4" mh??? decisions!!!
" balance and sensitivity " spells zombie
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible
Re: DX743 or Zombie 7'4" mh??? decisions!!!
I have owned both and sold my Dobyns and kept the Zombie.

Re: DX743 or Zombie 7'4" mh??? decisions!!!
Ive tried both on separate occasions and I say DX... Have this same exact zombie, and the sensitivity is by far VERY POOR. Before i made my purchase on this zombie, i contacted Justin (Great guy), asking for his recommendations, right away i was told between the 7ft or the 7'4 would be best for the applications i would be using the rod for. Im not sure if its my line or reel or what not. But just yesterday i went out with my buddy and did some flipping and pitching with jigs. I was fishing my zombie, and my buddy had his 7'6H Recon Rod. We both swapped rods for a bit. & My very first cast i could tell a BIG difference in sensitivity. I was by far VERY impressed at how sensitive this rod was! Again Im not sure if its the line or reel etc.. But right on my buddys first cast with the Zombie, he said straight up to me "this thing is not sensitive at all... " And all i could say was "i know" ... Ive also used this rod for cranks, spinners, and T-rigs. Still i cant say it is sensitive enough for me. For a $300+ Rod i would expect more from this rod...
Double Digit Lure Company.

I have never used a Zombie rod. I have 2 DX743's and love them. They are balanced very well with Abu Premiers. They are plenty sensative as I have never had an issue feeling a fish or distinguishing bottom type. I fish unweighted Senko's and Texas rigs primarily on both rods.
Re: DX743 or Zombie 7'4" mh??? decisions!!!
I have never used Zombie rods either, but I do own alot of DXs. The DX743 was my first and it turned to a crack addiction. I bought 4 more DXs with one of them being another 743. Balance, sensitivity, craftmanship, and one very cool chameleon color change that I get alot of comments on all the time. I hear the Zombie line has great rods, but IMO the DXs are worth every penny. They also are on sale right now, check out the "hot deals" section for info.

Recon = 36T Toray Blank
Zombie = ??T Toray Blank
Braid will help sensitivity. Sometimes making a poor or marginal rod acceptable (but not the benchmark I routinely shoot for )

Zombie , super balance and tough. They are sensitive, I have used everthing from powell to dobyns and they are just as sensitive.
Re: DX743 or Zombie 7'4" mh??? decisions!!!
The zombie is not as sensitive as comparatively priced rods (DX) some less expensive rods (cumara) and definitely not upper tier stock rods (NRX). In my opinion.
It balances wonderfully and looks very cool. Independent of blank material comparatives...balance (not coolness ) certainly enhances the sensitivity, for me, at least. Seems like a nice company and owner and that's cool he comes here.
Ultimately what I hit (and what you may hit) is your use case for it ("multi purpose"). The Zombie just feels huge. Thick handle, big profile. It feels and moves heavier than I would like a multi purpose rod to be. I have large hands, average height, and something like a DX or even an f6 72 feels better (unfair comparison, I guess, I just think that Orochi is the gold standard for me in terms of balancing lightness with great power...the coke bottle handle plays a great part in that).
I think the size of it messes with my brain around sensitivity, and to a lesser extent, the very soft hypalon grips.
Not Zombie bashing, so to speak, I just think it is probably more specialist than generalist. Plenty of fun to be had with specialist rods. Just got a Dobyns 765 glass and that thing is a straight up PIG for me...as one might expect. Still fun!
