That was a very informative read for me. Glad you posted it, I enjoyed it a lot.

Crap, can't believe that I didn't know half that stuff, especially the part on the spinning rod alignment.
Get your kids hooked on fishing, and they'll never have any money for drugs or alcohol.

Re: 5 Tips For Choosing A Spinning Rod
great read.
the only thing I would add is to buy a one peice rod where you can.
they are lighter, cast better, stronger, are more sensitive and amazingly, cheaper.
even with today's excellent ferrule technology, one peice rods still out perform two peice rods in every way.
you just have to be more careful with them.
I just watched a guy on a pier here in lake ontario fight and land a big carp while trout fishing with roe.
his rod snapped at the upper third, still managed to land the fish. about 15 pounds. nice catch.
I had to wonder: was the flat spot at the ferrule (that doesn't flex the same) the reason why the his rod broke where it did?
probably...

Dang! Now I have to get out all my spinning rigs and check them. Who knew? Great information, even tho I seldom put down the baitcaster. The info sharing on this site is awsome (and usually damaging to the bank account ).
