MBR844 vs NRX873

Post by Eric Walsh » Tue Mar 27, 2012 3:54 am

Truly enjoy fishing the 844 this year and can hardly put it down as it has been my go to rod thus far, but
was curious for those who have the NRX873 if the power and action were similar? Will be using the rod for
heavier cover and was wondering specifically if the NRX has a bit more power. I was also throwing the
F6 Destruction into the mix because I think I would land more fish with the slower action people have
described having fished this stick. Thanks as usual, Eric.

I don't own the MBR844. I have the MBR843 GLX, BCR804 GLX, NRX854 and NRX873. You didn't go into a lot of detail about what size lures you're fishing or what you mean by heavy cover, but I'd guess if you want a little step up in power from the 844, the 873 would be a good place to look. I throw 3/8-3/4 jigs and rigs with it and it works great. Very sensitive rod. Fairly stiff blank, so it's a fast rod, which is good for a lot of the deeper fishing I do, or getting them out of cover quickly.

Lots of fit and finish problems with the NRX's of late, so make sure you inspect the rod carefully.

The NRX873 is stronger & more sensitive. It is also quite a bit faster in action. Really fast in comparison. Tip is also very stiff vs MBR. The rods fish so differently I'd strongly recommend handling the rod before buying.
