Dobyns DX703 or St Croix XS68MXF

I am looking to pickup a rod to match up with Fuego 2000 recently purchased from TW for 4" senkos, light jigs. Have a couple of NRX rods that I like but was hoping to save some $ and was looking at the Dobyns or St Croix but have no local dealers. Any suggestions on either of these or do I bite the bullet and go for the NRX 802. Thanks

Dobyns. My DX742 is one of the most sensitive and well balanced rods I've ever owned and that includes several St Croix.

Hard to beat Croix in terms of quality. I'm also looking for a rod for my new Fuego spinner. I'm not sure if I'm going to go with Croix or a Cumara

A loomis 852 fits the fuego awfully good. The 68 croix and 7'm will also fit nicely.

I put my fuego on a St Croix LES68MXF and it its NICE........

Can't go wrong with either one. Aside from the Dobyn's being 4" longer they are both very sensitive rods with good backbone. There is a major difference in styling, I guess it might come down to what you like the look of better. I have both and find myself reaching for the Dobyn's more often, more of a feel and confidence thing.

FYI, I feel that the DX703SF has a slightly stiffer tip & is slightly more powerful than the St Croix. That is working on the assumption that the current Nsi rods are the same power as the previous generation. I haven't use the Nsi rod but have a lot of time in with the previous gen stick.

Both rods are light & very sensitive. I don't think you can wrong with either one.

I like my DX702SF for 4" senkos, tubes, and light Texas rigs. You can't go wrong with it as far as I'm concerned. That said, I think you should get the NRX. In the past I have had a certain rod or reel in my sights but bought something else to save money. I would usually not be satisfied because I would always be thinking about the rod or reel I passed on and how much better it would be. I always sold the rod or reel I had acquired and upgraded to the rod or reel I wanted in the first place. If the NRX is the best in your mind, by all means get one.

What he said. I call it the TTM syndrome ( Tackle Tour Monkey ). The is no known cure for the afflicted. That's why we are here.

All of the rods spoken of here are high quality,so as usual,it becomes a matter of personal preference,more than a matter of which is better..the one bad thing about the fuego reels(aside from the 50th Cabelas version,that is),is that God awful color scheme...of course we all know that aesthetics dont put fish in the boat,but still...most of us like to see that our combos look right together...
And as such,I would suggest the obvious,yet somehow overlooked...go with a TD fuego rod!Alot cheaper than the Cumulus(which would also look nice),and one of only a few rods out there that actually look proper with the reel...

I remember seeing someone fishing a Fuego on a Fuego rod in the classic but I can't remember who it was.

Besides the length, is there any other difference between the NRX 802 and 852? May have to wait for a good sale
