Need suggestions on heavier Jig rod.

Post by andy5014 » Fri Feb 24, 2012 1:35 pm

I am seeking suggestions on a jig rod for deeper water. I currently have 2 BCR 854's that I have been using, but they seem a little light when I am using 3/4 jigs in deeper water. I was thinking about the BCR 855, but with all the post on here about the Dobyns Rods, I wanted to see what other choices might be out there. I guess I am needing something between the 854 and a flipping stick. By the way this site is awesome.

i use a dx745c witha core 51mg for jigs 1/2 or heavier and does the job very well. Very light and sensative for all my flipping and pitching needs. Definately suggest that rod

The NRX 873 CRR is a good time with a 3/4 oz. football jig. Its at least a half power heavier than the 854...

I just started using a Phenix UMBX707H Feels pretty good for the 3/4-1 ounce football heads!

on the more exotic side, i really enjoyed the MB Super Destroyer III

i just picked up that same phenix last month at ise. i've only used it twice so far. once for senkos and the other time for carolina rigging. worked well for both. i can also see it as a heavy jig rod.

I use either a Recon 766H or a Ultra MBX 707H for my 3/4 & 1oz jigs. I like a longer rod to take up the slack quickly and also because I fish down to the 60ft level with these weights. I started with the 707H and really liked this rod. When the Recons came out, I bought the 766H and it's my go to rod for deep jig fishing.

If I'm fishing a heavy jig but on the shallower side, 15ft - 25ft, I like the Recon 764MH. Same length, just a little less on the power curve.

Dobyn's DX745C, exactly what you are looking for. Perfectly balanced and incredibly sensitive.

DX784ML. I use it for football jigs in deep water and am happy with it. Plenty of backbone and a nice tip. It is very versatile as well. I have thrown Texas rigs, Carolina rigs, swimbaits, big spinnerbaits, flipping jigs, and senkos on it.

I am currently using a St. Croix LTB 7'-3" XH. It is a stout rod and is light for how big it is.

The st.croix legend extreme 7'6 medium-heavy is a great heavy jig rod as well.

...........DOBYNS DX745 ALL THE WAY!!!!..............

at first I thought to myself, "a "5" power jig rod that is NOT a flipping stick. Only measuring 7'4.. This sounds ,like a broom stick. I was totally wrong....

This rod is full of power, yet has a tip soft enough and sensitive enough to feel EXACTLY what's going on down there. It will keep that jig pinned any bass' mouth without ripping it out.

Rod is very light and perfect for shallow tactical jig pitching and fishing deeper water with those heavier football jigs.

I also prefer the DX784ML for deep jigging, but it seems like you want a more powerful rod than a 4 powered rod. I'd browse the forums for talk between the 784 and the 745 as I think these 2 rods will fit your needs.
