Shr822s

Post by Lefty3244 » Thu Feb 09, 2012 9:27 pm

I'm in the market for a shakeyhead rod and I'm considering getting the shr822s. I held one in my buddy's in my hands for a moment and personally I liked it. Didn't, however, get a chance to fish with it. I've read review on on here and it only got a 7/10 which kind of concerns me. Was hoping I could get some feedback from someone on here who has used it and what they thought about it. Also, if anyone has the glx version how they like it as well. I just picked up the smr822s glx and I'm in love with it. It's my first glx and I really couldn't be happier how much better everything is about it compared to my other rods. I was going to use the smr822 to double as shakeyhead/tube rod but I would rather have a rod for each purpose to keep from re-tying constantly. I know the glx version is going to be the superior rod, but I'm wondering what your opinions are on the lower-end shr822s.

Its a pretty good rod and I have some buddies that throw it. It is "stiffer" than the SMR 822 GLX version. I don't LOVE the comfort of the broadened handle/reel seat, but its a solid rod. For the fact that you can get the NRX 822 SYR in the mid-$300s, if its in your budget, that would be THE choice.

Around $200 is really top of my budget. I guess my question was just if it was better than the 7/10 rating that it was rated in the review. From what I've read and the brief time I held it in my hands I think it'll do the job. Appreciate the nrx suggestion though. Been drooling over them for a while now.

It'll do the job. I think the 7/10 is b/c its a good rod but nothing about it blows you away. The Cumara would be another good choice in the price range, although the medium fishes softer than the 822 Loomis.

The action on the rod was great for me, I really liked how it fished. I had the GLX, and could not STAND the recoil guides. That said, I loved the way it fished but it was either sell it, or strip the guides and rewrap. I opted to sell it.
