Ideas for an Alabama Rig rod???
Ideas for an Alabama Rig rod???
Looking for some suggestions here. I want to know what people are using for A-rigs. I know that people say you should use a really stout rod like a flippin' stick but I am concerned about the action. I am thinking that a extra heavy action swimbait rod might just be the way to go. I have had someone tell me that the 7"11 Shimano Crucial extra heavy swimbait rod is awesome but I haven't used one. Any suggestions would be helpful. I really don't want to look at anything over $200 if I can help it. Thanks

I just ran across the Matt Lures swimbait rod with the telescopic handle which looks like it could work so any imput on this rod would be helpful. thanks again

An XH swimbait rod is wayyyy overkill! The most an A-Rig will weight is about 3-3.5 oz! Take alook at the Phenix UMBX 711MH Classic swimbait rod! It is rated for 1-5oz and the wooven carbon fiber and Kevlar blank is SUPER strong!

too soft.
Re: Ideas for an Alabama Rig rod???
So what is the down side to having a rod that is too stiff for the A-rig? I have heard so many times that you would rather the rod be too stiff than too limber when fishing A-rigs. Make me understand.

Take a look at the Phenix Recon 796 It's 7'9" light weight and works well with the A rig. It's in your price range at $189. It's a very versitile rod. I've used it for punching and flipping, Thrown a medium size swimbaits and wake baits on it and now it's my A rig rod.

The 795ML to me is the perfect A Rig rod. Perfect tip and great for launching A rigs or double up as your swimbait rod.

Thanks for all the help thus far. I am still somewhat confused. I see that a couple of the rods that were mentioned would be pushed to their max ratings with an Alabama Rig. Still not sure.
Re: Ideas for an Alabama Rig rod???
I don't think the rod manufacturers have had time enough to devise an Alabama-specific stick...YET.
Until they do, their overpowered swimb8 sticks will have to do. Have you looked at saltwater sticks?

I have not looked at any saltwater sticks yet and to be honest I probally wont. I agree with you 100% that the rod makers haven't had time to bring out any alabama rig rods YET. The search continues.

Another vote for the recon. The 796 is solid and would make a fantastic multi use rod.
