Cumara Reaction question
Cumara Reaction question
What do you guys think of using the 7'6" Cumara Reaction ML for a wacky and/or other light weight plastics rod?
I am looking for something to pair with my Aldebaran or Steez.
I know it is designed for moving baits, but I want a 7'6" ML rod.
The specs are below.
CUC76ML 7'6" Medium Light Medium Fast 8-15 20-40 1/8-1/2 1 D 3/5" 11" T+9 112

Re: Cumara Reaction question
I have not fished this exact rod, but the Reaction series tends to fish a power or more lighter than their rating and I would be concerned that is to "whippy" for any plastics...but this is just a guess based on the rods I have fished......and I also don't know exactly what your preferences are. If it were me and I was looking for a "lighter" plactics rods, I like something more medium/fast (not reaction type) rod....something similar to the Loomis MBR 842 GLX...just my $.02.

Re: Cumara Reaction question
It depends on how low of a lure weight you plan on throwing. I have thrown 3" senkos on it and it worked pretty well. It is a pretty whippy rod though. In my opinion, the Cumara 6'8 med fast out of my Cumara arsenal is the more well rounded choice for finesse light rig

Thanks guys.
I think I will probably change directions on my thoughts and start looking closer at a Dobyns.
I really wanted a Cumara.... What about the 7'7" Cumara Reaction Medium????

Re: Cumara Reaction question
I've felt this rod and it has more backbone for sure. If you were going to fish nothing but wacky rigs or flick shakes where you just have to lean into them, it may work, especially with a braid mainline.....that is if you are looking for something super soft. Have you looked at the regular Cumara 7'2" Med.-Fast or is that stifferthan what you are looking for?

Re: Cumara Reaction question
The 7'7 is a pretty stout rod for its ratings to me anyways. It feels more like a rod rated for like 3/8oz to 1oz. as opposed to 3/8oz to 3/4oz. I wouldn't use it for light weight finesse plastic applications.bnl wrote:Thanks guys.

As someone mentioned, I too would highly recommend the CUC72M for what you describe (or CUC72MH) which are designed for worms/jigs/senkos. The CUC72M is designed/rated for 1/8 to 1/4 oz t-rig worm. I have a CUC72MH with a Core 50MG on it, and can cast a 1/8 jig quite well. It is an awesome, lightweight, sensitive combo.
I own both the 7' 6" ML and the 7' 7" M, and I agree with all of the feedback posted thus far. The 7' 6" ML is awesome for light moving baits, but it's mod-fast action is not well suited for plastics. It is soft, light and very sensitive, but has enough backbone for hooksets. I landed a 7+ lber on it this year no problem.
The 7' 7" is a very powerful rod, feels more like a MH to me. Again, great for moving baits, especially if ripping them through the weeds is required.
