The Ultimate Spinnerbait Rod
The Ultimate Spinnerbait Rod
My first choice of lure in almost any place I fish is a spinnerbait. I have used many different rods over the years but have never found that "ultimate" or "perfect" spinnerbait rod. I have used All Star, Castaway, Loomis GLX, Falcon, etc. currently a Dobyns and a St Croix MHM graphite. The length has varied from 5'9" Castaway to the current 6'8" Dobyns. So, I would like to know what you guys consider your ultimate spinnerbait rod. I do not use rods 7' or longer.
I appreciate your input. Thanks AL

My ultimate spinnerbait rod is a 6'6" MH fast action custom using a Shakari blank, I'm deadly accurate casting it and it has unbelieveable backbone with a lot of feel to it, awesome rod.

Re: The Ultimate Spinnerbait Rod
I really enjoy fishing blades as well and for me it's a lot like fishing jigs or other techs, I like 7' - 7'3"
in open water and prefer shorter sticks for close combat/ accuracy. Then there's the whole cover
scenario as I prefer braid around pads and heavier cover and like mono/ fluoro for rivers due to the
clear water. Bronzefly hooked me on the Loomis SBR751 for small blades and it's a hoot to fish - but
if I had to pick one stick for all my spinnerbaiting it would be my St.Croix LE70MF. It also handles pike
duty in a pinch.

Re: The Ultimate Spinnerbait Rod
Right now I'm using a 7' M Mod Abu Veritas for spinnerbaits. I originally bought the rod for shallow-med cranks but it ended up being too fast and too stiff for that for me. It did make a good spinnerbait and buzzbait rod though.
I have also used the 7' MH SVF Steez for throwing blades and it works out pretty good. If things pick up in the next year, I may get another CompX and switch the SVF over from t-rigs and light jigs to sb's.
If you want a shorter rod, I would suggest an older black-blank BPS Crankin Stick 6'6" MH. Not the coolest, hippest thing goin, but they did a fine job for me. I had the newer style in 7' MH and just didn't like it near as much. I've got an older 1 that I used for years and it really worked out good, in fact I can't bring myself to get rid of it. If anything happens and I have to sell my higher end stuff I know I've got a good spinnerbait rod.

plainjane mbr783 glx.
of all the things it likes to do, it likes to do blades the firstest and the mostest.

Kistler Magnesium MH 6'9" APC- loves the blades.
Re: The Ultimate Spinnerbait Rod
I'm on board with the 843 but since you qualified your request at under 7', the 783 GLX is nice. I have been playing with the SBR 813 GLX. Definitley has some charatcter and is unique. There is something about that extra fast tip on the SBR that I love..especially for those side-arm roll casts with a blade at semi-close quarters..The 813 GLX version falls b/t the regular 812 & 813 in the SBR line, regarding power...
Re: The Ultimate Spinnerbait Rod
7'0" or less = 843 or 844. Depends on how heavy you want to throw.

Re: The Ultimate Spinnerbait Rod
Steve,
I had a 812 GLX and was having too many miss hits. The tip was too slow. The 813 sounds like it would be a bit faster.
Interesting choices here. The 783 may be the ticket. Van, I usually throw a 3/8 oz. I have a couple of rods to throw my 1/4oz, which is no problem but for the few 1/2oz ones that I throw, the rod I use for the 1/4oz doesn't cut it.Thanks
