Falcon Bucoo 7'0" Heavy

Post by bassninja » Wed May 04, 2011 7:35 am

Looking for a budget stick for pitching 1/2 to 3/4 oz jigs into heavier cover. Will this rod do the trick? Regular or micro guides doesn't matter.

Yeah, the 7' falcon Bucoo Heavy rod is awsome for pitching jigs into heavy cover. Also, for just 20 dollars more I would go with the one with micro guides.

i've been looking at this rod as well. the reason i haven't pulled the trigger yet is because i'm kinda confused on it. tacklewarehouse's description says that the taper is "med-fast" (something i definitely don't want in a jig rod) but i have a feeling that cannot be the case. the falcon website says that the name of this rod is the "lizard dragger" but offers no other clues as to the taper.

You hit the nail on the head. My exact question also. The faster the better for pitching imo.

well, i emailed the super-helpful guys at TW about this and here's their reply:
Falcon doesn't label the taper on the blanks however they have informed us that they do all have the med-fast taper. We here in the office have also attempted to confirm this via our own opinion and it appears that the med-fast taper is correct for all rods in the lineup . Please e-mail info@tacklewarehouse.com or call 1-800-300-4916 and one of our customer service representatives will be happy to help if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for choosing Tackle Warehouse.

Youd be surprised how well a MedF rod will handle pitching duties as well as compensating for very powerful hook sets.

Regardless of what you decide you wont find a better rod at the price point.

It does lean to the med-fast side, but it's still fast enough for pitching jigs.

Hmmm... Med-fast taper? I've fished Med-fast tapered rods before, but just for crankbaits never for jigs. How are the hook sets on the 7'0" heavy bucoo?

Let me echo some others on this thread. Reguardless whether the rod is mod-fast or whatever, it makes a good carolina rig (what the rod's labeled use is) or flippin and pitchin' stick.

A little light powered for a heavy, but a great rod nonetheless.

and FWIW I've only fished the microguide version of the 7'H (lizard dragger).

just found out that there are TWO different falcon bucoo rods in 'heavy'. in addition to the BCC-6-17, there's a BCC-7-17 that is rated for 15-30 lbs. line and 0.5 - 1.5 oz. lure weight. TW does not carry it nor is it listed on the falcon website. however, BPS has them both and gives the following descriptions:
  • Model BCC-6-17 – The stoutest BuCoo rod. Ideal for pitching, flipping and Carolina rigging.
  • Model BCC-7-17 – The ultimate ''power'' rod for jigs and soft plastics.
interestingly, BPS lists both heavy rods as 'fast'.
