I like the 705 CB glass for my square bills. If you dont like glass rods the 705 CB in graphite will work well too. Alot of guys are using the 765 Cb glass for square bills and love it. You do need alot of backbone to get those hooks in the fishes mouth.

I would agree that you want one of the 5 power rods, glass or graphite is a personal thing, length based on what you are fishing. If you fish a lot of banks and shallow tight targets, go 7ft, if you are working large flats go with longer rods to bomb it out there and better fish control

I have the 765CB Glass, and while I haven't fished any square bills on it yet, the one word I would use to describe this rod would be VERSATILE. With the right reel, it will handle 1/4oz cranks just fine, it absolutely launches 1/2oz cranks and lipless cranks, and doesn't feel strained at all 3/4oz cranks. I haven't gotten to use anything heavier than that yet, but I don't see the 765CB Glass having any problems with it. The only thing I'd be concerned with is that it isn't the most accurate rod (for me anyways) and I find accuracy to be especially important when throwing squarebills into holes in the weeds or into laydowns, etc. I will still be using it for squarebills and most all my cranks as my other CB rod is a 7' M/M that is ideal for 1/4oz cranks, but WAY too soft for anything heavier than 3/8oz.

I use the 705cbmf glass for Squares and have been for 2 years and its a great rod with enough power to pull them out and you wont tear the hooks away with the glass rod..

Plenty of power in the 705CB. Good stick for square bills. A good all around cranking stick period.
Another stick to consider especially for tight quarters is the 685CB. Rod is a little bit more stout than the 705CB.

Little unconventional perhaps, but you might consider the 733. Not a cranking stick but it has worked great for ripping 'traps through the grass. Since most square bills have pretty beefy hooks, keeping them on shouldn't be a problem. If you're really crashing square bills through cover, I'm betting it will work great.

I've been using the the 764CB RM as my only cranking stick since last Fall. Just started cranking square bills with it in earnest early this spring. Although it is only a 4 power, it seems beefy enough to handle the task. Plucked a few fish so far. :) Biggest fish so far has been a 5lbr.

Civic, I wouldn't doubt the 733C would make a good squarebill rod. It makes a great trap and spinnerbait rod. Thats one of the things I love about rods like the Dobyns or Loomis's MBR, they're just so versatile.

I threw the new Strike King KVD Square Bill 1.5 on the Dobyns 705CB Glass a couple weeks ago and was very satisfied with the results. I was thinking about picking up a 764CB RM after what civic had said about it, but will be holding off now.

Because funds are somewhat low, I had to pass on the 4.9:1 Zillion I wanted to get and ended up with a 5.2:1 BPS Pro Qualifier. It's no Zillion, but I was presently surprised with the reel and the price was right.

I have both the 704 and 705 cb glass. I think the 705 is the better rod for square bills. It has more backbone and allows you to get the fish out of heavier cover faster. It also works good for larger cranks in open water. I use the 704 with light stuff in open water.
