Differences between Dobyns DX spinning rods

Post by darrin » Sun Apr 17, 2011 4:06 am

For 2011, Dobyns added a DX 762SF and a DX 792SF to join the DX 742SF. All these rods are rated the same. Does anyone know what the main difference between these rods are (other than the length)? I've been thinking of getting one after reading some of the posts. But which one? Thanks.

I own a pair of the DX742SF & love 'em. I haven't used either the DX762SF or DX792SF only held them @ the ISE Sacramento show a couple of months ago. Here is my opinion based on that. The problem is holding them in the store is not the same as fishing them.

The DX762SF seems to have a slightly slower action vs the DX742SF & DX792SF. In fact, the DX792SF seems to have a slightly faster action than the DX742SF. I don't specifically recall on the DX762SF but the DX792SF seemed to be slightly more powerful than the DX742SF.

I know in a recent post/thread Dr. Perf said he really liked the 792SF. Hopefully he'll post on this thread.

Thanks for the observation. This supports my thinking that there are differences between the three. Hopefully I'll get to play with them at the store soon.
