Fiberglass or graphite?
Re: Fiberglass or graphite?
Glass rods are my utility rods. I like them because they are more versatile than graphite. With one glass rod I can throw a wide variety of cranks, traps, jerks, topwater, spinnerbaits, scroungers, swimbaits, buzzbaits with one rod etc etc. I find that I also lose less fish. The Dobyns glass rods are in a league of their own. They are lighter than their graphite counterpart if you go back in the TT review you will see this. I used to be a big custom BS706 Seeker Glass guy and Gary's Glass rods blow the custom Seeker out of the water. Small diameter blank compared to the 3/4 inch butt end of the seeker, Lighter and my Custom BS706 rod was tricked, spiral wrapped, split seat, split grip and the Gary beat it even with a full grip.

I own 2 Daiwa S glass rods and love fishing crankbaits with them. I primarily use them for med to deep divers.

I have a customer graphite cranking rod. I like it for shallow/medium cranks, but I'm not as crazy about it for deep cranks. Maybe it's the rod weight, but I'd like to try glass for deep cranks and see if that makes a difference.
