Next rod: DX

Post by Fat-G » Wed Apr 06, 2011 10:41 am

Since I have seen the Dobyns light, I want to add a rod for Rage Hawgs, 10" Anacondas, and other t-rigged plastics. Kind of a rod that would be an all-around bottom contact rod. Of course it will have an E7 and braid.

703
704
743
744

Which one would you choose?

I use the 743 for senkos and light texas rigs. For heavier texas rigs I would probably go to the 744 but I don't have one so someone else would have to comment about it.

744 is what I'd go for as it has more backbone to it..

I have a Powell 704 that I use for your listed techniques and love it but I BADLY want to upgrade it to a DX 704, I like the extra fast action for t-rigs and the added sensitivity doesn't hurt either.

I would probably choose between the 704 and 744, tough choice! :D

I'll probably go DX744, just for the full grip. Thanks guys!

I'm also using the DX743 for 5" senko & light (1/8oz weight) t-rigs. DX744 is what I have used for up to 1/2oz weight plus plastic. I'd go with the DX744.....pretty sure anyway. Really depends on where your fishing.

Darn Dobyns! They might be offering too many rods.
I have the DX742C, DX743C, DX744C & DX745C rods. They all can fish a relatively wide range of baits well. Since I purchased the DX745, I've been using it for pretty much everything on the Delta above what the DX743 is for. I initially thought I'd replace the DX744's on the boat with DX745. That works well for the Delta.

Found the 744 was plenty of rod dragging 3/8 & 1/2oz football jigs in the local foothill lakes. Since the cover there is lighter, I figured it would be a better choice. It is a better choice...there.

X2, the full grip balances very well with the DX744.

DX 744 would be a good pick. I also like the DX 704 and DX 703 also ;)

I have a Savvy 735 that would work for you, especially in heavy cover... but if its in your budget 744! :D

Absolutely agree, I am not a fan of the split grips. Balances perfectly with almost any zillion.
