kistler micro magnesium
Has anyone owned this rod? How does it compare to others in the same price range? What are your opinions on this rod?

Re: kistler micro magnesium
Put the rod down and step away from the Kistlers. You asked.

Assuming you can look past Kistlers history, it's a nice rod.
I wouldn't pay retail for it tho. You'll likely be able to pick it up for half price in a few months.

Re: kistler micro magnesium
Quality control, warranty issues, & shabby customer service are the big complaints about Kistler I've read here on TT, along with changing product lines to often. I've got several Kistler rods(a couple Magnesiums, but not the micros) & like them quite a bit, but I buy when they drop a line of rods & I can get them off eBay for half price.ecu daniel 14 wrote:whats up with kistler's history? im a kistler newb..

Re: kistler micro magnesium
geez that doesnt sound very convincing at all..TT sort of compares them to the Gloomis glx, any thoughts on this?

Re: kistler micro magnesium
They're very good rods, I just don't gush like a teenage girl over Bieber about fishing equipment. But there's a very vocal minority here who had/have issues with Kistler & they tend to get pretty loud about it. They're probably worth their retail price points, but I think they're an awesome deal when you can find them for half price on eBay.

Re: kistler micro magnesium
I have 2 non micro Magnesium rods. They compare very well to other rods in the same price range IMHO. Kistler had quality control issues in the past with some blanks. They did not disclose these issues to the public until recently in a newletter written by Trey himself. If you get on Kistlers site and search the forum you should be able to find the newsletter. Draw your own conclusion. Also the rods drop in value greatly when the new model year is released. He seems to change blank materal, handle type, and guides every year. If you are not the type to sell a rod every couple of years you should be alright. If you are like me and sell off some rods every year to make room for newer rods than you will take a beating. I just sold an LTX with recoil guides for $125.00. I paid $365.00 for this rod 3 years ago. Ouch!

Ironically I just bought a 7'6" HE2 LTX for $130 with recoil guides. I can't wait to try this bad boy out! (Brand new, tags still attached too!).njbasscat wrote:I have 2 non micro Magnesium rods. Re: kistler micro magnesium
Aside from the fact that I'd never buy anything with Trey Kistler's name on it, I still would not buy one of the Mg rods. I've handled them in the store and they are TIP HEAVY! A balance point of 11.5" on the regular-guide rod is ridiculous for a 7' rod, and the review said the micros only moved the balance point half an inch...
Aside from that, they do change the rods every year, making your rods worthless...
I believe there are much better rods you can buy and much better companies to deal with.
