Savvy 703C compare to....
Can somebody tell me if the Savvy series compares to a Loomis GL3 in weight, lighter or heavier ?
Specifically a Savvy 703C vs GL3 MBR843C ? I do not have a Dobyns dealer in my area, so I can't just run down and look at one, thanks for your time in advanced.

Physical weight I don't know.... It definitely feels lighter than the 783 GL3 that I replaced with the 703

Honestly, I think the action is a little bit softer, at least in the tip (plenty of backbone) than the 783. Probably pretty close to a 782 and a half if there was such a thing. If you are looking at a direct replacement, I'd look at the 704 which I also have. It handles the heavier stuff without being a broomstick. If you are looking for a general purpose spinnerbait, texas rig, light jig rod, the 703 is it. for heavier rigs, jigs over maybe 3/8 and so on, look at the 704. I like them both a lot. Thats kind of how it started, I got the 703, then 2 days later ordered the 704, now I have a pile of the Savvy rods. I really like them.

I'm not looking for a broom stick , I cast and pitch 1/8 ,3/16 and 1/4oz T.Rigs mostly 4" creature/craws up to 9 1/2" worms #14 mono.Pads/brush ,hydrilla what ever there in or around ,open water ,just depends.flywatersmallie wrote:Honestly, I think the action is a little bit softer, at least in the tip (plenty of backbone) than the 783. Current rod for this use is a 783C GL3.I'll order the 704c if its not right I'll send it back for the 703c.Thanks for the reply.

I was worried about the 'broom stick' thing when I purchased my SS734c. Assuming the 704 is very similar you have absolutely nothing to worry about. The rod has plenty of backbone but the tip action is great. Sounds like you'll be fishing around some cover so I would definitely go with the 4 power.johnD wrote:I'm not looking for a broom stick , I cast and pitch 1/8 ,3/16 and 1/4oz T.Rigs mostly 4" creature/craws up to 9 1/2" worms #14 mono.Pads/brush ,hydrilla what ever there in or around ,open water ,just depends.flywatersmallie wrote:Honestly, I think the action is a little bit softer, at least in the tip (plenty of backbone) than the 783. Could anyone describe how the 7' and 7'3 lengths of the same rod compare? i.e. 704 vs 734. The 7' rods are a little easier to store for me I'm just wondering if there will be any noticeable difference in action.

I haven't played with the 734 so I can't compare directly but the 704 is absolutely not a broomstick. It's not soft either. I have a 735 and while that one is definitely more powerful than the 704, they have a similar taper at least going by the wiggle test. Having all of an hour on the 704 and no time on the 735 yet, time will tell but from initial impressions, they seem real similar in terms of action with the 735 being understandably more powerful

I would think with those weights you're better off with a 703 unless you're fishing some thicker cover. I think you might have issues tossin the light stuff on the 704.
Re: Savvy 703C compare to....
The specs on both the 703c and the MBR843C are exactly the same , but being two different manufactures that might not mean much.As long as the Savvy 703 is a true MH not a Med I'll be ok.

anybody else ?
Re: Savvy 703C compare to....
unfortunley I cant compare to the loomis because the only loomis i have fished have been IMX 7'6 heavy, GL3 7' heavy. The GL3 heavy felt more as a medium-heavy to me really whippy what I wanted it for at that time. The savvy 703 C its a medium-heavy to me 10-17 lb line rating. I use the savvy 703 C for t-rig worms 1/2 oz is what I usually throw for the heaviest. Anything heavier I will use the 704 C.
For weight I dont know what would be lighter you may have to weight each rod and see. I know the savvy balances really well and feels light so i really dont worry about weight. I hope this helps.
