Paddle Tail Rod

Post by Boods » Tue Mar 22, 2011 1:49 pm

I am in the market for a new Swim Bait rod. I will be throwing paddle tails in the 4.5"-5.5" inch range. Most likely Basstrix and Shadalicious with a few Prime Target Shakey Fins thrown in the mix. I fish in some pretty heavy vegetation so I was wondering what kind of rods you guys use for this particular application. Thanks! :D

Lintner's signature series Powell paddle tail rod from TW. Have it. Fish It. Love it. I use it for exactly the baits you mention.

The rods I've used for 5" Basstrix have been the Dobyns 733C, 734C, and 735C. I felt that the 733C was underpowered. The 734C worked well, but if I were in heavy vegetation I would opt for the 735C.

I've liked the Dobyns 734 for those baits. Soft enough tip to let the bait swim & let the fish eat it. Enough power to drive the hook home.

Do you use braid for this setup? Would the Powell 714C Endurance be a good rod for throwing swimbaits of this size?
