G Loomis NRX 854C JWR
How does this rod compare to the BCR 854 GLX, particularly the sensitivity? I owned the latter and while I liked it I was a bit disappointed with the sensitivity. So many people raved about the sensitivity of the BCR 803 GLX, but for some reason the BCR 854 GLX was not as sensitive. I wonder if this is the case with the NRX 854C in comparison with the NRX 803C.
Finally, in general do the NRX casting rods have the same action, power, taper as their GLX counterparts?

I have the 853 NRX and it is very sensitive. I can't give a direct comparison to the same rod in the GLX series but can tell you that I had the BCR803 GLX and the 853 NRX is a half power heavier than the 803.

I am thinking of getting this rod as well pretty soon...or the 873 which is also rated for 3/4 oz baits. I also am wondering what people have to say about this model.

FYI - I borrowed an NRX 804 casting rod with a Mirrolure Catch 5, about 3/4 oz, and had no problems. I will get an 854 in 2 weeks.

ill be waiting to hear what you think. I may be buying a new fish finder first...so I may be a few months out before I can swing it. But I love my NRX, I really can't get over how light they are.

Re: G Loomis NRX 854C JWR
Ive been using my NRX 854 for a couple weeks now pitching 3/8 oz jigs to cover and for deep water structure. I love this rod...best jig rod ive ever used hands down. It has plenty of power to bust them out..but it has a great tip for pitching. I feel like its a lil softer than my GLX MBR844, but maybe its just me. The NRX is very sensitive, and ill be adding the 893 to my arsenal next!

I got the 854NRX last fall and love it. Plenty powerful and very sensitive, I think it has a slightly softer tip than the Glx 854 but it might just be me.

Re: G Loomis NRX 854C JWR
i have both the nrx803 and nrx854.. the 803 is more sensitive than the 854 due to the extra fast action but the 854 is still a great rod esp for 1/2oz jigs and maybe occasional 3/8oz spinnerbaits and horny toads in open water..
to me, the nrx rods fish like they are 1 pwr lower compare to their GLX counterparts due to their lighter weight but when you have a fish on, it definitely compares to the GLX in power/backbone.. so for me, i think that's very good!

I too think that the tip is slightly slower than the Glx counterpart but it is a very very good rod. I got it later in the year last year and have not fished alot with it but I have enough to know that I like it alot.capesmallie wrote:I got the 854NRX last fall and love it. I am also looking forward to any feedback on this particular NRX 854 JWR, I already have a GLX 893 and a NRX 852S JWR. Looking for something a little stouter for fishing Jigs
