Which is your favorite rod company?
Re: Which is your favorite rod company?
I voted for Dobyns.
I made my choice because these are truly some of the finest production rods I've used. The craftsmanship is outstanding on all the rods I have, they perform just as well a comparably priced rods and they look great. I'm the kind of person who likes to try a lot of different brands to see what I may be missing out on. But since I'm on a college budget, I still want to spend my money on what I feel is in the best of what I've used. Dobyns Rods hasn't left me wanting more yet (except wanting more of them!).
Last spring, I probably would have Shimano, followed by G Loomis.

If you've read my posts, my vote for Dobyns won't come as any surprise. More of their rods have that 'just feels right' thing going than other brands I've fished. I won't lie - One of the reasons I decided to try the rods out was I thought it would be cool to try out the 'little guy from the West Coast' brand vs the Big Boys. The rods have impressed me with feel/performance, quality & customer service. They look pretty good too
If we were voting for a second choice, I'd be voting St Croix. As I posted before, a long history of making quality rods.
OK, besides Cal voted the JDM only option?

I'm not loyal. I have a few different rods. I would say GLoomis has the nod for most of my inventory.

Re: Which is your favorite rod company?
Definitely G Loomis, I think Shimano has made them better. I got my hands on a few Dobyn's rods at Cabela's today and was not impressed. I felt like they spent to much time and money trying to make the rods look special, to me they looked way to busy and not attractive at all. Pardon my pun but too much bling, if I wanted a piece of art I would of bought a painting and hung it on the wall. I wanted a tool to go fishing. Reading this forum I see a lot of Dobyn's people and realize I will most likely open a can of worms but I also noticed a few blemishes on their rods, Pimples and waves in the clear coat, One guide I notices was not straight, all on just three spinning rods a DX763SF and two DX703SF. I stopped looking after that. I ended up purchasing another Loomis my first spinning model NRX 852S JWR, no blemishes. When I mentioned the issues with a sales person, he said something stupid like that's their old models and aren't being made any longer. I then asked about St Croix Legend Xtreme rods if he had any in stock, he said Legend what oh we aren't carrying them any longer either and walked away. I shook my head at his ignorance paid for my rod and decided not to come back to Cabela's in the future. I spent the rest of the day at the Louisiana sportsman show down the road maybe a mile away. Did I mention I can't wait to go fishing, thank god it's time again to enjoy my time on the water.

St. Croix.
I can cover all my fishing needs with their sticks, keep my money in the local economy, and I am very satisfied with their rods/service.

Gotta go with St Croix due to the line up they offer custom builders!
Re: Which is your favorite rod company?
Voted Loomis as I love their rods and feel they are the benchmark for all others. However, I own Shimano, Dobyns, Kistler, Daiwa and a few customs that are great as well.
Re: Which is your favorite rod company?
Voted kistler for factory rods.
Pretty much only doing customs from here on out. Can't compare to a factory rod IMO.

I love the few G-Loomis rods I have. They are just so light and sensitive, and each action is exactly what it says. I have 3 Shimano Crucials and one Kistler Magnesium and these are also fantastic. I VOTE G-LOOMIS thou!
Re: Which is your favorite rod company?
I would have to go with the St Croix MoJo rods when your on a fixed income
