Re: Carolina rig rod ?
I had two MBR844C GLXs and a BCR854 GLX at one point. I also currently have a MBR843C GLX, which I used on several occasions for the C-rig with a 3/4 oz weights. Not ideal, but it worked. My first C-rig rod, the one I used the most was a Daiwa Light & Tough 7'6" Flipping rod, so I've used rods on somewhat opposite ends of the spectrum. I never used my MBR844C GLX for the C-rig, but considering it is a more powerful version of the 843C, I believe it to be a better C-rig rod, particularly if you prefer a fast action rod that is more moderate. The BCR854 GLX was my all-around jig & soft plastics rod, and it was used quite a bit for dragging football jigs. I think dragging football jigs and a C-rig go hand in hand, so the same rod can be used for both. For me the BCR854's sweet spot was 3/8-1/2 oz jigs with trailers. I did use it for 3/4 oz football jigs, but it strained a bit on the cast. I've noticed that rods that are faster in action, like the BCR series have a much smaller weight range that they fish comfortably with.
Having said all that, I would definitely recommend the MBR844C GLX for a C-rig rod. Although somewhat tip heavy, if you fish C-rigs tip down like I do, it wouldn't really matter. If you were looking at the BCR series, and considering the 7' preference, I would consider the BCR855 GLX over the BCR854 GLX.

I bought the DX744C for jigs & soft plastics, including dragging football heads, so of the rods I currently own it would be one that I would try with a C-rig. The other would be the 735C. My preference is a rod over 7' feet, with 7'6" being ideal. If I was a C-rig die hard, using 3/4-1 oz weights, I would prefer a 7'6" rod that is more powerful than then the DX744C. Even I compromised on the power and length, so I definitely understand the storage dilemma.gundog wrote:I would love to here what you guys use thanks.

I use a 844 glx and BCR875 GLX. for the weight you suggest, I'd go with the 844 or BCR874.
I looked at the LTB C-Rig and think it would be good if you like split grip. I wanted full grip. It packs down to 6ft which would be a plus.
I've not fished a Dobyns.

I really like the falcon lizard dragger but I think the DX 705 would make a great Carolina rig rod.
Thanks for the epiphany captain obvious

Try a Powell 714C Endurance. Normally I would recommend a longer rod like a 764C to make casting that c-rig a little easier and give you a little more leverage on that hookset but with the storage you mentioned the 714C would be a good choice. Its a heavy action rod to help you drive that hook with the shorter rod.

Powell 705c.

I really like the Loomis 844GLX for CRigs, ESPECIALY after I removed the Foregrip. I think it makes a much better CRig rod then Jig.
The Dobyns DX704 is a Great all around 4 power rod.
