Hey all
I've just received a Dobyns 681sf. I've a dumb question...if it's rated light, why does it spec out at a medium light range (4-10lb line, 1/8-3/8oz)?
It's not a huge deal...i wanted a very light rig for this spring, just can't tell why it's rated this way while the Champion Extreme is rated "light" but at 1/16-3/8.
If anyone has it, I'd love feedback on how well it flings the tiny stuff. Basically got it because I wanted something for the tiny but get annoyed quick with UL whippiness.
Thanks in advance for feedback and advice.

Re: Dobyns 681sf
I don't know about the 681SF but I'm fishing a pair of DX701SF's. They're a light action without a doubt. I handled a 681 recently and it seemed to be lighter in action than my 701's.
I was crappie fishing yesterday using my 701's and a 1/8 oz jig head. The wind was howling and I was having a tough time keeping my line vertical (essential for this type fishing). I added a #4 split shot above my jig which would IMHO gives you roughly a 1/4 oz total lure weight. They handled it fine but I don't think I'd go much heavier than that based on this one experience.
Not sure if all this answers your question but maybe it'll help. FWIW, I'm considering adding a 681 or possibly a Champion 701 to my lineup this spring.

Thank you. How's it do on the lighter end of things...ever throw something lighter than 1/8?

Can't really comment on how it would cast the lighter stuff since most of my fishing is vertical but I think it would work OK. The Extreme series is amazing!
