Heavy drop/down shot?

Post by jmb27 » Mon May 11, 2020 10:07 am

Anyone using this technique? I'm assuming it's using heavier line than the normal 6lb. or so for drop shotting to allow the bait to be t-rigged near heavier cover.

I use it and it produces lots of fish in deep grass and wood cover when they want a slower presentation.
line size depends on the cover i'm fishing... it can be 12lb braid to 8lb fluoro leader in deep grass where I need a finesse presentation but a t-rigged plastic, 12lb straight fluoro in shallower, denser grass or even 16-20lb fluoro in wood cover

Are you using longer/bigger worms like a Zoom Trick Worm? Or creature baits?

With the heavier line, do you also use heavier drop shot weights?

depends on the conditions, but I don't usually use much bigger lures. The largest ones are trickworms, 5in senko style baits and i've had good results on a full size zoom lizard

yep, I use a lot a 3/8 with havier line

oh, and with heavier line I open the clip on the DS weight and tie a knot on it, I seem to loose a lot less weights this way

Used regularly out here out West... on the CA Delta, baits are presented in drop shot form on a flipping rod. We call it the Bubba-Shot ;)

I've heard that term before. :D

Looking to try that out--I drop shot a lot using light line, but I'm thinking the "bubba-shot" would be effective on some of the waters I fish that have lots of brush/wood.
