What is the ultimate 1/2oz Jig combo?
Re: What is the ultimate 1/2oz Jig combo?
1/2 football jigs have been working wonders on my faust / MG7 with floro
Im catching numbers and I am looking forward to getting them deeper fish..
The rod has the sensitivity to detect bites on a very long cast which is needed when using a football jig..

Either that or the new Orochi XX Braillist ... that's a good candidate too.
Cal, you would pick the Braillist over the FMJ?
Re: What is the ultimate 1/2oz Jig combo?
Rod: K2 715 or GLX 844, both custom though..
Reel: Zillion Type R w/ 100m spool & 100mm handle
Line: 20lb Shooter
Basically my ideal setup for pitching jigs, which is 90% of my jig fishing.
I prefer a 7'6" rod for deeper jig fishing though.

The FMJ is a moving bait stick where the Braillist is for vertical bait presentations.vishus wrote:Cal wrote:Hmmm... i'll try to play...

Have you fished the K2 714? I have a 714 and am considering a 715 for Texas Rigs, as I feel the 714 is a little light in power for them.ogrich31 wrote:Rod: K2 715 or GLX 844, both custom though..

Is the 715 noticeably more powerful than the 714?

I've fished a little more than half of the K2's, including the 714.ccass wrote:Have you fished the K2 714? I have a 714 and am considering a 715 for Texas Rigs, as I feel the 714 is a little light in power for them.ogrich31 wrote:Rod: K2 715 or GLX 844, both custom though..

The 714 seemed lighter than it's rating. It feels like a medium to me, where the 715 is a heavy (power comparable to a mbr844). If you need one in between those powers, both the 764 and 765 are good choices imo.

In my hands, the FMJ is purely a jig and worm rod, and a fantastic one at that.Cal wrote:The FMJ is a moving bait stick where the Braillist is for vertical bait presentations.vishus wrote:Cal wrote:Hmmm... i'll try to play...

Aye... i got the FMJ mixed up with the EMTF... darn initials. ... I thought the original question was about two rods in the new Orochi XX lineup not a Destroyer vs Orochi XX question. I've actually not fished either rod extensively but fished the Braillist more recently than the FMJ in that intro back in the Spring. Can't offer a comparison or preference though.bronzefly wrote:In my hands, the FMJ is purely a jig and worm rod, and a fantastic one at that.Cal wrote:The FMJ is a moving bait stick where the Braillist is for vertical bait presentations.vishus wrote:Cal, you would pick the Braillist over the FMJ?

Cal with the reviews you do I don’t know how you keep them straight . Better yet how to narrow them down to only two . And Gary your in the same boat with all the rods that pass your hands how to narrow it down . Job well done guys very knowledgeable

HUGE thanks to Gary and CAL (as well as all of TackleTour!) for being trusted hands that get to review and advise on all of these varied models of rods and brands. I would love to try everything before deciding, but don't have access or time for everything.
I went with a FMJ for 1/2oz jigs. A Daemos for lighter jigs/trigs. I do have a custom K2 715 that gets in the mix now and then.

Who has this Zbone rod that Cal speaks of?

I have a few of the new z bones on the x ray blank the medium hey is great for 1/2 oz jigs I have the 7,6”. The medium light heavy is an awesome rod for the lighter stuff 1/4 oz ish t rigs or 3/8 oz baits. The 5 power hey would be great for 1/2 oz and up these are great bottom contact rods but I feel I like the med hey the best for 3/8- 1/2 oz baits

It happens! So many great rods to fish and so little time to fish them all thoroughlyCal wrote:Aye... i got the FMJ mixed up with the EMTF... darn initials. ...
