Skirt tieing, advice and opinions

Post by lifeofRiley » Mon Feb 26, 2018 4:49 pm

I am looking to tie some jigs and buzzbaits. I was wondering what people like better, thread or wire tieing? If anyone has any good advice on how to please share. I looked on u tube and the search results are all over the board.

Search the "jigs/spinner/buzzbaits " forum. This topic gets covered regularly.

I had the same problem until I asked someone on the other forum who submit me a PDF with pictures.

Now I finally understood how to do it properly

Just get some craft or floral wire and a vice and have at it.

Look up a YouTube channel called “smalljaw”, the guy has a good video on using wire. 24-26 gauge wire from the plastic flower section of a hobby shop. Put the jig in a vice, take a 3” inch piece of wire, make 3 wraps around the skirt, use pliers to pull the wire ends to get the wraps tight - you shouldn’t be able to pull the skirt out, twist the tag ends, nip off wire until about 1/4 inch is left and then fold that over flush against the wrap.

You need to have the skirt held in place with an o-ring or skirt collar
