"crooked" hook?
"crooked" hook?
I recall 5-7 years ago using a hook for double wide beavers which had a point off-centre from the eye and shank. Similar to what Hackney does here: http://bass365.com/crooked-hook-hackney/
Anyone know what hooks these are that came from the package with that style of bend?
Thanks!

The only ones I know of were the Messler Worm Hooks by Eagle Claw, which you can see here:

Re: "crooked" hook?
Eagle Claw does still sell a worm hook designed to rotate on the hookset, but I don't know if the point is parallel to the front of the shank or kirbed.

Tru-Turn also made (makes?) a worm hook designed to rotate on the set. The point is parallel to the front of the shank. These are very effective at hooking bass--especially with thicker worms with round bodies, because two bends in the shank set the point off the thickest centerline of the worm, so it has less plastic to penetrate as it is pulled forward through the side of the worm. They're great with 7" Berkley Power Worms.
The Messler was also very reliable for hooksets. I never hooked a bass big enough to bend one open during the fight, but I worried about that because of the angle of the hook point.

Re: "crooked" hook?
Thanks for those links. However, none of them are what I was using. They looked exactly like a typical EWG worm hook but had the (maybe 20*) bend off-centre from the point to the first bend into the throat of the book. I may start bending factory gamakatsu EWG hooks, but I really don't like doing that in fear of weakening the hook.

Re: "crooked" hook?
You can kirb/reverse any hook, but it'll be more likely to foul hook the fish, i.e. through the eye or gills.
This is the way.

Don't VMC (some of them) have slightly pointed tips? I think it is only like a 3 degree offset though...
