Shipping Rods
Shipping Rods
I am new to selling stuff online other than Craigslist where I just meet the person for the exchange. I am going through a tackle trim and I am getting rid of some duplicate loomis rods I have. I was wondering how much shipping usually is to send a rod out?

Re: Shipping Rods
I feel USPS is usually the cheapest for me. Between 18 and 25 bucks

Re: Shipping Rods
Last rod I shipped Fedex was $33. The last rod I shipped USPS was broke. Try to ship in PVC tube if possible.
Re: Shipping Rods
30 bucks is normally about what I pay. Always use a PVC pipe if possible. I have seen even the tough TW cardboard tubes not survive.

Re: Shipping Rods
Regardless of what tube material you choose, my suggestion is that if you're going to insure the rod, ship Fed Ex or UPS and avoid shipping rods USPS. If a rod is broken during shipment, generally all three carriers will fight a claim, but USPS has been the most notorious for failing to pay a legitimate clam from my experience over the years.
Another tip - always tape the butt end of the rod securely around and outside of the tube to prevent it moving "up or down" inside the tube. Tips are broken frequently when left unsecured inside the tube. Good luck, it's always nerve racking to ship a rod!

Yup, most important to secure the rod to keep it from sliding .bronzefly wrote: ...Another tip - always tape the butt end of the rod securely around and outside of the tube to prevent it moving "up or down" inside the tube. Once the rod is secure and in schedule 40 pvc , it would take and act equivelant to a carrier opening the end and breaking the rod on purpose for there to be an issue. Most trucks could roll over 3" schedule 40 pvc and the tube wins.
Re: Shipping Rods
Thanks for all the replies. How much does it cost to ship rods in PVC pipe instead of the cardboard ones? Is there much of a difference?

Re: Shipping Rods
Not really any difference, once you get to the oversize charge seeing how the rod is so long, weight us kinda a moot point. PVC is more expensive to buy. I always save my tubed so I can reuse themcvanpelt wrote:Thanks for all the replies. How much does it cost to ship rods in PVC pipe instead of the cardboard ones? Is there much of a difference?

Re: Shipping Rods
Hi guys. Thanks for the tips on shipping fee. It also helped me a lot. Have a nice day ahead.
Re: Shipping Rods
I found that shipping rods in pvc and tacklewarehouse cardboard tube is the same price. Usually cost me anywhere from $24-$28 dollars insured up to $350.
