Casting plugs.

Post by lifeofRiley » Wed Nov 09, 2016 7:49 am

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a 1/2 oz. Casting plug made of rubber? I used to have one but lost it on a break off while testing a reel. I've already snooped on Amazon and Google but can only find 3/8 which always seem way too light. Thanks if anyone can point me to a link or in the right direction.

Yep, see above link. From 1/4 to a 1/2 oz they have ya covered. Wish they made a 1/8 and 1/16 oz to really test the lower limits of a rod and reel setup.

Why not a real bait with the hooks removed (or the points cut off or blunted) ? ... If testing a reel is what you're looking to do, that would be the way to go. It would be more accurate in terms of how a particular bait will react to a reel's setup as, for example, a 1/2 oz spinnerbait casts much differently than a 1/2 hardbait. Just a thought.

If you're looking for just for weight for the sake of weight, any bargain jig head would work.

I've used these plastic pellets/beads that you can mold after putting them in water.
E.g.
https://www.amazon.com/InstaMorph-Molda ... B003QKLJKQ
https://www.plastimake.com/ (in Australia)

Tough and impact resistant plastic.

Just weight out the amount you want, get a bit of wire to make a tie point, and off you go.

Plenty of other uses as well.

I practice pitching in the yard with old bullet weights or egg sinkers. Yards not big enough to do much more than that but it makes for quick and easy practice.
