Look into RSnets
They had a few at ICAST and we're pretty slick..

Re: PVC coated mesh or rubber net
The rubber net might do less damage to fins and fish eyes than the coated mesh, with the potential disadvantages of being vulnerable to aging in the sun and having more water resistance when one tries to scoop up a fish.
I have used a PVC-coated nylon mesh net for years on crappies, bass, walleyes, and pike. I can't recall ever having a problem extricating a hook, or seeing any damage to fish because of it. With the uncoated nylon mesh net I used before that, hook barbs were always getting stuck in the knots of the mesh. This option gets my endorsement.

Re: PVC coated mesh or rubber net
I haven't been around a rubber net that I liked. They've all been way too shallow. Too much like a trampoline. Etc.
I prefer a coated net. I personally use a Beckman.
Both are great for hook removal. But I would have to give the edge to a rubber net. But, that being said, given the large cross section of the rubber I've used, some of them can take up the entire hook gap and make it difficult to remove the hook.

I have a retractable rubber net, cost nearly $80 but well worth it.

What Jerry said. Trebles don't get caught in the webbing, fish just flop out.
Re: PVC coated mesh or rubber net
I bought a $30 Frabill rubber net with an extendable handle from WalMart and never looked back. It's one of the best investments that I've made. It does the job just fine and it didn't break the bank.
Re: PVC coated mesh or rubber net
Of all the nets I have used the rubber ones are the easiest to get hooks out of. I tried a JDM one time that I wish I could remember the name of the holes were wider and the net was deeper in such a way it negated some of the negative aspects mentioned in this thread.

I use a Berkley silicone rubber net. Had it for about 5 years now and still going strong. Trebles do not get stuck and never had a bass jump out. Don't know if these are available in the USA.

I have landed hundreds of catfish from trot lines with a rubber net. Once in the net, they like to roll and twist. Just flip the net over and they flop right out, same with bass. Hooks don't get hung up either.

I catch a lot of large smallmouth, and there is not much wilder than one of them fellas. I use a rubber netted Ego s2 slider and have not had one jump out yet. Great net imho.Dexter wrote:What Jerry said. Trebles don't get caught in the webbing, fish just flop out.
