fishing nets

Post by Dexter » Mon Apr 18, 2016 1:25 am

I currently have an old nylon landing net. Trebles always seem to get caught in the webbing. I'd like to replace the net. I would appreciate any input/recommendation on purchase of a new net. I went to the local cabels and the only info the salesman could give me was the price point. That I didn't really care about; as I was more concerned with the webbing and protection/care of the fish caught. New nets looked like all the webbing was rubberize. Do the hooks become tangled as easily as in the old nylon models and are those nets less harmful to the fish....or is this a "TT" OCD issue?

Thanks
Dex

No rubberized as you call it work great. I've been told they'd are less stress on the fish and hooks don't get caught in them .

Points can snare between the web, but rarely snag it. Much easier than old school knots and far better performing. The web rebounds/retracts creating an easier footprint to avoid, fish don't spook as easily, they're reliable and maintenance free.

The less harmful aspect is valid in my opinion, especially with their eyes. They don't entangle fins, slime coat isn't coarsely violated, new webs are great. Nothing not to like.

After switching to a rubberized net many years ago, it is pretty clear that the old nylon nets were simply inferior designs, and I honestly feel a bit guilty thinking of some of my catches over the years that suffered easily avoidable and potentially fatal injuries in my nylon nets. The rubberized ones are much gentler on the fish and much less of a hassle for the fishermen and their lures/hooks.

Thank you for the input. Nylon can indeed be difficult. Also hard on the fish....when thrashing pike get tangled in a net plus a 3 hooked bait... I'll pick one up this weekend. Any suggestions on make or model?

Rubber is definitely the way to go. Easier on the fish and fisherman.

Rubber nets are far superior over nylon for all the above reasons and one more. They do not stink of old fish slime after use. \:D/

I have a fishpond nomad. Rubber nets as mentioned above are 100x better.

I'm noticing many stretches of river that used to be dominated by ferns and greenery have now been taken over by sticker bushes and thorny flora.......Makes traversing much less of a headache
