I do this all the time. I find it helps to think if im naked and laying amongst the gear.

Do what I do now that you probably have everything you need (and probably much more that you don't), spend that extra time fishing

Seriously, try to control your urge to buy by getting out on the water a lot more or spending time with family. Try to limit fishing research and web surfing to when you really need it and before/after each season to keep up with the current techniques. Create a wish list for yourself along with a list of things you have excess of and try to trade. Spreadsheet everything and sleep on it. After sleeping on it for a few days eliminate all the stuff you really don't need but thought you did. Use the spreadsheet to keep track of when and where you probably will get the tackle from, create automated searches in fleabay, offerup, craigslist, etc... with the appropriate parameters <$$$ and rinse and repeat.

I'm assuming that you already know about bass.co.jp, and japaneselureshop, jpangler, etc, so I don't need to mention those.

For the advice part, I've been pairing things down by selling lures I don't use and older rods/reels that collect dust as I've upgraded. The classifieds here and eBay are good ways to move stuff on.
