Owner Twistlock hooks

Looking at picking up either the Twistlock Open Gap or Twistlock Light for 5-6" Senkos. I use heavier line, either 16-20lb fluoro or 15lb CXX. Will the Twistlock Light, which was created by GY for Senkos, suffice or would I be better off with the heavier gauge Open Gap?

Use te heavy gauge, I've bent the light before.

I have used the light hooks with mono and flouro without issues. However I would not recommend them with braid.

use the heavier hook with that setup, i use the lite hooks for weightless zoom flukes on a lite power rod.

The light wire on those hooks is more appropriate for 6 and 8 pound test. I can almost guarantee you will bend them out if your drag is set properly for the 15 pound line you're using.


Great hooks though! I've only used them this season but they've done really well on finesse worms and stuff.

I've used these hooks on and off for about a year now, mostly with 5" senkos. I LOVE the owner centering pin screwlock for many plastic applications, but not for the senko. The CPS does keep the senko from sliding down the hook, but as a result the senko is almost always torn in half at the hooks bend when a fish strikes. Something's got to give and with the head locked in place it's the back half of the bait. Two fish on a single senko with this rig gets you bragging rights
I love owner products, use them almost exclusively, but this is a poor design. A rigging option that makes the senko less durable is NOT what I'm after. I don't need anymore help burning through bags of senkos. Give me a 4/0 - 5/0 Owner EWG anyday

I've been using the twistlock lights for 2 seasons now. I''ve caught 50+ bass on these now and NO problems. Twistlock Lights all-the way... Read what Yamamoto himself has to say about these hooks (spoiler - they don't bend on big fish)

I agree with bladerunner, The 5/0 light is more than adaquate for LMB. This was my hook of choice for a week on the Rideau this year. As for strength, the line was 20lb. Braid with a 12 lb floro leader. The lure that produced best was not a Senko, but a FatJob from Bass Assassin.

I have not used the light wire versions, but I have used the regular ones, and they're the thickness I prefer. Why take chances? Plus, they lend themselves to a broader spectrum of techniques than do the light wire.

How does the wire thickness of the Twistlock Light compare to the standard Gamakatsu EWG?

i use the 4/0 weighted twist lock hook on 20lb braid. Any hook bend has been pretty rare.

The thinner hook is way, way easier on senkos and 3.8 keitechs.

The twistlock light hooks are excellent. Very sharp and dependable. I use them on two of my setups. One has 6lb fluoro and the other is 12lb fluoro. Personally, I would not use the light version on line higher than 12lb. I would be concerned about bending it out. The heavier gauge hook would be best for what you are looking for. Better safe than sorry.

The twistlock light is best for open and on not too thick cover situations. I have tried a few and bent most of them when snagged on some thick weeds. Go to the Twistlock - XXX (# 5132/5132W) or the twistlock flipping model (#5168) around thick weeds or structures.

The senko works much better with a light wire hook.
Plus owner has made a special series of hooks to fish the Gary Yamamoto stuff and they are light wire.
