6 pounds in Summer 2010 fishing an open tournament on the CA Delta. Dobyns Champion 734C, Shimano Chronarch 100D7, 55# Daiwa Samurai Braid, and Lucky Craft Gunfish 115 in Chart. Shad. My partner and I were working opposite sides of a canal looking for the big fish we knew were in the canal. He tells me to turn around because there is a drop off on his side, so I reel in and make a long cast and after 3 twitches it blows up and takes me right down into the weeds. The part of the Delta that we were fishing is chock full of "witches hair" and it really gets all gunked up on your lures and makes it hard to haul fish out of it. I just kept applying pressure and making sure I didn't allow any slack as we trolled up to where the fish was burying deep and after a few minutes it came out and we netted it. I had the fish barely hooked in the edge of the top lip with a single barb on the rear treble. That fish was the last one we caught that afternoon and put us in 11th place out of 70+ boats!

About 20 years ago I was fishin a creek behind my house that runs into the Ohio River about 1.5 miles down stream. I pulled in one that measured at 22-1/4in., if I had to guess it might have went 6-7lbs.
It was caught on a Rapala orange w/black stripes crankbait that dove to about 3-5 feet, Zebco 10lb line, on a $5.00 5'6" Zebco rod and a $5.00 Zebco 202 reel. I remember the rod making cracking sounds and the drag wouldnt hold on the reel, but I got her in. (I also still have the rod and crankbait)
Jump ahead to summer 2011 in a private farm pond....I landed one 20.5in. and equipped with digi. scales she weighed 8lbs.2oz. caught on a Abu Black Max reel, Abu 7ft. MH Conolon Premier rod, 50lb Power Pro braid line and a Zoom Mag Super Fluke (7in) in Disco Violet color with a 5/0 Owner TwistLock hook weightless, flipped it into some cat-tail weeds about 25ft from the dock, let it settle for 5-10 seconds, then BAM!she bout' pulled me into the pond, I was used to catching 2-4pounders all day and didnt expect that one. She was healthy when I let her go so hopefully she'll be there this season \:D/
Sorry for the long post :)

23" smallmouth, went about 6lbs, from the Cass river in Frankenmuth. MI on a 1/16oz roostertail coachdog on a rod I built from a flyrod tip blank, with a Quantum microspin MS00 and 2lb test...Took half an hour to land that fish, and after 25+ years it's still as vivid in memory as the day it happened.

last year 22.5 lmb. was a tub. 6 lbs easy but didn't weigh it. NRX 853. pflueger patriarch xt. braid with flouro leader. grass jig with craw trailer. shore fishing cranberry marsh walking back to car because it's dark. road divides good side of marsh from bad. car parked on bad side. putting gear in car and jsut kind of side arm it to a stump about 5 ft from shore where i,m parked as a last cast of the day. maybe 10 inches of water. unhooked her by moonlight and sent her swimmin. that is no longer the "bad side". decent size for central wisconsin

Caught trolling Texoma with a big Storm swimb8 (6") a couple of decades before they were called swimb8s. W8 ranged from 6 to well over 20 pounds IIRC. A once-in-a-lifetime day for sure...Thanks Ron Johnson! :D

6 pound largemouth, caught on an ugly stick light 4-8lb rod with a $10 quantum optix spinning reel. Second worst reel I ever owned and it was never the same after that fish.

13.89LBS from a northern CA Lake called Berryessa. Late March of 2005. Fenwick HMG telescopic Flippin Stick, Abu Garcia 5600S, 20 pound P Line, 8" Huddleston Deluxe Swimbait. Fish was big enough and hit powerful enough to break the rod blank on the inside, before the telescoping part. She had it all the way down her throat. Nice fat pre-spawner.

Best part, in a tourney.
