Super Light Flipping Setup
I'm working on putting together an ultra light flipping and pitching setup. I already have a Core 51MG. What are the lightest flipping rods on the market. I picked up a Daiwa Zillion 7'6" the other day, and it felt uber light. Any suggestions? I'm hoping for it to weigh in under 10 oz, maybe even 9.

I have my Core 51mg mounted on a Dobyns DX702C Finesse, and I'm thinking about getting the DX742C. I don't know how light the setup is, but it's one sweet combo.

Don't think that counts as a flipping stick though.stykbowslim wrote:I have my Core 51mg mounted on a Dobyns DX702C Finesse, and I'm thinking about getting the DX742C. I don't know how light the setup is, but it's one sweet combo.

Re: Super Light Flipping Setup
what about the new cumuras that just came out? I use a 7'2 Mh
Re: Super Light Flipping Setup
One of my flipping setups is a Kistler Zbone LE 7'6" 5 power rod with a Revo Premier. It's feather light and incredibly sensative. For very heavy cover I use a Dobyns Champion 766 with a Zillion. It is not as light as the Zbone but still very light and well balanced for such a heavy powered rod. I pitch and flip with both rods.
Re: Super Light Flipping Setup
For a light rod, the Cumara's can't be beat. Either the 6'9" or 7'2". And, oh, so sensitive to boot.

Try a Powell 764C Endurance with that 51mg reel. Its a very light and balanced rod and the most versitile rod I own.

Reading the OP it seems like he is after a light-weight combo for flipping std weight lures with a std power rod.
However, it did make me wonder about a flipping-type cast with much lighter lures and what equipment would enable that.

Get a custom made from the 7'6" mod/fast Castaway blank. The last one I played with was about 4 oz. It will match up nicely with a Core 51MG and be under 10 oz.surferdave wrote:I'm working on putting together an ultra light flipping and pitching setup. I already have a Core 51MG. I have 2 very light setups, and both are very well balanced which is key. Unfortunately I m not sure what will balance out well with your reel.
Mine: First is the Basspro Shops Carbonlite combo - what a sweet light setup for under 200 bucks!
second I have a Pixy mounted on a Carrot Stix micro guide parabolic rod this is easily sub 10OZ setup and I can cast it for what seems like forever. It has a carbon handle and cork knobs for a bit lighter setup.

If I were you I would find a Custom builder in my area and have him order one of the Phenix Flipping Blanks in my preferred length, power etc.. Put a Fuji ECS reel seat on it with handle length and materials to my specs and some Fuji micros, hook keeper and call it a day. You'd be hard pressed to find a lighter blank than the Phenix for the $$$.. Also, if the Phenix blank would be out of your price range you can look at the MHX line from Mudhole.. You should be able to have one made in the $250 neighborhood I'd imagine... There are several good builders that frequent this site that should be able to fix you up.. Good luck..

For me, when I want to do some light flipping and pitching I use the Phenix Ultra MBX 707H. its perfect length 7'7" and super light. Yet it has plenty of muscle when needed. I pair mine with the Core 101. In fact, I have 4 of them and rarely do I pick up my actual flipping sticks anymore, except when going deep into the tullies or punching.
