Best hook manufacturer...
Re: Best hook manufacturer...
I use to like Gama
But for plastic as a wide gap hook I like the Mustad Ultra Lock it really holds the plastic well
Gama hooks have sort of a L shape offset the bait always slides off.
But for bigger plastic I like the Owner Oversize # 7 hook.
So i guess it goes with what kind of bait you are fishing with

Re: Best hook manufacturer...
Been using Gamakatsu for quite some time..
Have tried a few others, but have found no reason to mess with what works.

Re: Best hook manufacturer...
I love the Superline EWG and wacky hooks from Gamakatsu. The only Owner hooks i use are for live bait and drop shot
Let's go fishing!!!
Re: Best hook manufacturer...
I use Owner for all my soft plastics fishing. I do use Gamakatsu for replacing the trebles on my crankbiats/jerkbaits.

Owner, significantly better than the rest. Tried them all besides Decoy, which is a JDM brand.
Try an Owner J-Hook on your thicker plastics, or an Owner Wacky Hook on your wacky worm rigs. You will never use anything but. Bottom line, you miss less fish with Owner hooks, this observation is true with everyone I've ever known that has used an Owner hook.

Re: Best hook manufacturer...
Gamas for me. Who in the world would spend the ridiculous amount for trokars
Re: Best hook manufacturer...
Owner pwns the rest as far as hooks produced for the bass fishing market worldwide.Gamas 2nd.Love the cutting point ,it is tremendous and unlike Gamas has NEVER straightened out on me.

Re: Best hook manufacturer...
Same as above....gammy for plastics, mustad kvd for trebled.
Pretty surprised mustad isn't higher in the poll

Re: Best hook manufacturer...
It depends on what I want to do. Owner's Rig N Hook is perfect for rigging weedless tubes due to it's extremely wide gap but short over all length. Their Mosquito hooks are bad little buggers also. Gammy has some fine hooks and can be had on sale from time to time.
Let me throw this at you....Earlier this year I was in a pinch for some hooks and needed them yesterday. I ran to K Mart and the only brand they had in the style I needed were Matzuo. I was hesitant but grabbed them anyway. I'll tell you what, I was shocked at how well made they were. Plenty sharp and strong with a decent finish to them. I would not hesitate to buy them again. Don't always go for the name brand or fall for the hype.

Gonna-catch-you hooks are on my line most of the time. They are readily available in my area, and have served me well. I've picked up hooks from all of the other brands but Trokar, and all have served the purpose. Of the ones I've used, Gammies and Owners seem to be the most consistent.

Re: Best hook manufacturer...
X Point hooks are by far the best I have used for freshwater bass fishing. Just a fantastic product.
Re: Best hook manufacturer...
I voted for Gamakatsu.
I've heard so many good things about Owner hooks and so many people comment on threads like this that Owners are the best, but I've never had good luck with them except for the ST-36 treble hook. I went out and bought a pack of the new Zo wire flippin' hooks and missed fish after fish. I didn't think that their new Zo wire was any thinner or that it penetrated better...I could not stick a fish on that hook for the life of me. I threw on the trusty Punch Hook, which is made by Gamakatsu and did not miss a fish the rest of the day.
I've also tried the Rig-N hooks from Owner and had the same problem where I couldn't get the hook through the plastic to catch fish. After missing about 5 fish I gave up and went back to Gamakatsu Superline EWG and did not miss a fish afterwards...
I dunno...maybe it's just the weight of the hook that affected the action of the bait that got fish to commit better? But I just didn't have any luck using those products so I gave up on Owners and just stick with Gamakatsu now.
