Favorite species to target on a fly?

What would be your favorite species to target and why? For me it would be Steelhead here in VT. The fight they put up is just magical in my eyes. I've only spent a few months fly fishing, but have managed a few rather large Steelhead by VT standards on a fly, and can't wait to continue to do so.

Tarpon look like a blast in salt. Most of the fishing shows related to salt are tarpon-related. Those air-gulpers and superior fighting strength and stamina!

Well, since I just started, my answer would have to be, "Anything willing to eat my fly in the middle of all this leader material because I still can't lay my casts right."

But, I have my eyes set for a Golden Trout, just because of the scenery that it will include. I can't wait for July to get here.

Well its cliche to say trout or salmon, but honestly carp are probably the most challenging and rewarding fish to consistently catch on the fly in freshwater but pike are probably the most fun ;)

If it's got fins, I'll put a fly to it, but, my favourite is the wild Brown Trout, followed closely by the Grayling.

I've only fished for two species on the fly - largemouth bass & stripers. While largemouth are fun, they just can't compare to the take of active stripers. Just a crushing strike. Love it. :D

I've never had a chance to fly fish for salt water species. If I did, Tarpon and Snook would be tops on my list with bigger gear. However, knowing the way I like to fish, fishing for Bonefish on a 5 or 6 weight Trout rod would probably be my favorite.

With that said, the only game fish I get to fish for with a fly are trout and bass. The smallie is by far my favorite. A good size smallie caught in the river on a trout fly rod is a BLAST!

Obviously, if I lived where there were Steelheads, Salmon, or big browns, brookies, or bows, my favorite would probably change.

Brookies, smallmouth, largemouth and carp in no particular order. I am hoping to get out after some saltwater species this year too.
